Beaver  used to do some of those products, but have long since discontinued them.

The best bet now is the 2mm finescale association, you'd need to join, but you can see what they do before to see if it is worthwhile on their website.

Good luck

Hi Martin,
Below is a response I gave on the Ngauge Yahoo group to a similar question a while back.

'The Schools was a real head scratcher but my solution will probably not work
for everyone as indeed it doesn't too well for me now and I would approach
it differently!
The easy bit is the power. I used a Union Mills tender drive as the tender
is quite large and you can pack some weight in around it. This makes it a
lot easier with the loco as you don't have to try to squeeze a motor in,
just ensure it picks up on the other side to the tender. Today I would get a
pair of suitably sized drivers as spares from BR Lines. The valve gear etch
that comes with the kit will make your hair fall out. It has been reduced
from a larger scale and I gave up. I seem to recall I used the valve gear
from a dead Farish Black 5 but again you can buy this or similar from BR
Lines. I say 'today' as when I built it it was to run on a layout where it
only had to tackle 'N' gauge points straight on (ie no change of direction).
I therefore used 2mm SA drivers and bogie wheels which will run fine on 'N'
track but falls into the massive flangeways on points. It worked fine but
that layout no longer exists and it now struggles as I've gone and put
points in the way. I can't retrofit N wheels now so advise you to use Farish
ones. Also make sure you get Allens N etch rather than his 2mm one. The
difference is very marginal but you won't be able to fit N wheels into a 2mm
etch as they're to wide.'

Of course you could just cheat and wait for the Dapol RTR one but where's the fun in that :o)

I think I'd wait for the Dapol one - but if not then you probably want to look in part at the 2mm scale association. Not just for the bits but because a lot of the folks who scratch build locos so have the necessary experience and skills to share are going to be 2mm SA members (indeed the 2mmSA has not long ago organised a chassis workshop for example)
