Oh please. I'm in the last throws of having two dental implants installed. <Gory details snipped> OMG that's painful in itself.

In 2 weeks I should get my replacement teeth. That's supposedly the end of the treatment process. Ten months I do not want to have to go through again.

And you are complaining about a fat finger for ten minutes? Hmmmm

Bob G

PS It's certainly put the wife off having implants done. And it has cost £6k for the privilege. Then Denplan put up my monthly fees because I've been having more work done than usual (which I'm mostly paying for).

PPS shouldn't this be in the unhappy thread?
I wholeheartedly agree, Bob, sounds horrendous, and far worse than lying on your side with your knees up for 5 minutes feeling like your digestive process is working in reverse. I wish you well with the dentistry.

I didn't know you had a duck. Most people have a cat or a dog. Must be a Devon thing.

Quote from: Foxhound on July 11, 2025, 01:29:42 PMThere's certainly a lot of urban myth around it, but it's something we must not shy away from. The consequence of doing so can be irreparable. I've experienced it a couple of times and I have endured worse discomfort at the dentist!

Oh please. I'm in the last throws of having two dental implants installed. It's taken since 4 October last year when the teeth were extracted and I had to have a plate, which I absolutely hate. I feel like I'm choking all the time, I can't taste things properly, and I can't eat a steak.

The surgery for having the titanium implants installed took 3 hours with countless injections to top me up. Bone growth media was added where the cyst had eaten away at my face (cow based product) retained in place by pig based mesh. You don't want to be a vegan!!

Then the skin had to grow back over the implants, only to be cut away recently so that more protruding plugs could be fitted.

Yesterday I had the moulds done for the replacement teeth. More injections into the upper pallet. OMG that's painful in itself.

In 2 weeks I should get my replacement teeth. That's supposedly the end of the treatment process. Ten months I do not want to have to go through again.

And you are complaining about a fat finger for ten minutes? Hmmmm

But then again, lest people be put off, not very unpleasant either.

At least no sedative or anaesthetic is required.

I've experienced it three times and agree with @Foxhound that it's not pleasant but it's only for a minute or so and thinking about it is worse than the actual experience.

Well, that was a great watch.
Reminded me a little of the chap who used to run the model railway and shop in Tavistock, he was still going strong in his eighties, but had shut the shop. He invited me into his home after I had mistakenly knocked on the shop door (which was in his outbuilding) and he had a great big O gauge set up in his living room, which I believe extended into the dining room. Years previously I had relieved him of a troublesome Triang Hymek in the devil's gauge, which it transpired just needed new pick ups on the back bogie, for just a few quid. Although he had no time for diesels he was a lovely bloke.

Quote from: Bigmac on July 11, 2025, 12:47:57 PMi used that D word in another thread a few minutes ago--it reminded me of an experience a few years ago.

I had a doctors appointment--and he suggested i have a prostate examination. He mentioned it would be a digital examination, and i thought he meant something involving hi tech electronics / computer etc.

He had the biggest fingers ive ever seen--like a bunch of bananas.
It's not a pleasant experience.
