Sometimes you bite the dog...

Yes, I remember it being in the news at the time. I have also since discovered that some locos are actually designed and designated to be emergency generator sets.

The amazing bit (to me at least) about that one, was that they drove it, under its own power, along the last 1000ft or so of road ... without any track (shades of stealing the tank engine in The Titfield Thunderbolt)! With the flanges making grooves in the road surface. I assume that they used some heavy machinery to keep it going the right way.

emjaybee

If the road was fairly flat, it could just be a case of point and go.

I have an occasional dream that I'm on a tram or train which for some reason needs to leave the tracks and run along the road for some reason, and I always wonder how the driver manages to "steer" it.  :hmmm:

emjaybee

Err, okay...    :confused1:

Not sure if that's disturbing or not.

I'm quite sure it is disturbing  :(

Maybe we should start a thread recounting our dreams? I have a few

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

I've been there, done that.

On Moorpark, thankfully. The engine was easy enough to remove and the "brickwork" undamaged. My controller went rogue and wouldn't stop the Castle nor the turnable. The result looked very similar.

Embarrassing, but not fatal, hopefully.

Did they employ one of Richard Bransons drivers to steer that loco down the road , I remember  Branson praising his driver for steering that Voyager down the bank when  it crashed .

Luckily the guy on the turntable prevented further damage by stopping the 8F with one hand!

Is your single tunnel portal somewhat larger than the actual tunnel? Not a problem for Italian layouts:

Annoyed by the way bogie-mounted buffer beams on diesels can look odd on curves? No worries:

Modelling a Netherlands scene and need to plug a hole in your dike? Just use a spare multiple unit driving car:

Any explanation on why that unit is stuck in the bank, raisquid .
