Title: Farish suburbans why Maroon and Crimson ?
Post by: Paul-H on October 14, 2018, 08:38:58 PM
Hi all

A quick question I hope

I have been looking to pick up some Graham Farish Suburban stock and have gotten a little confused over the colours available, they are available in both Crimson and Maroon, if correct what's the history off there two colours.

I will be using them an a branch line were the main line is running Maroon Mk1's

Did BR use both colours and if yes when or where were each colour used.

Thanks for any help with this

Paul

Suburban stock ran in crimson until 1956 and then maroon from 1956 onwards.

In simplest terms;
Crimson was for Non-corridor and Non-passenger stock running along side Crimson & Cream corridor coaches c1949-1956.
Maroon was for Non-corridor and Non-passenger stock running along side Maroon corridor coaches c1956-1966.

However in reality, there was a considerable transitional overlap, more so for non-corridor stock, so both would be seen together.

Alongside your Maroon Mk1s, both are possible, though the crimson ones should be somewhat faded/weathered as it would have been some time since they were last painted, and would become fewer through that 56-66 period.
