I much prefer the Oxford Diecast models - but are they too big or are B-T Toys with their much greater N gauge range too small ?  Equivalent models are not nearly the same size despite both claiming to be 1:148.

Oxford Diecast have indicated that the following are for Feb/March 2014 release.

First issues of the Bedford Lomas Ambulance, Mini, Morris Minor, and the two Scania artics.

These are all showing as new releases in stock at DM Toys in Germany (!) so should be at UK retailers in a few days.

In comparison with OO we are not very well covered by this great range. We could do with something like the Morris J van in N for instance rather than another Morris 1000 livery. Also we could do with some sort of tipper truck like a Leyland Comet.

Can't find a single tipper truck or pre-transit type of van in N.

Agree entirely.

I'd be nice to be able to have a building site or builders yard with right era bits and pieces.

I know Langley do some items but TBH, I don't particularly like the look of the small items. Too small for me to paint anyway.

There is a Commer PB van coming soon, but nothing for the 1940s/1950s yet. Some of the BT Models/Base Toys can be adapted to 1950s tippers using the various Wiking tipper bodies - Commer, Albion, AEC, Leyland LAD, Leyland "Mouthorgan", Foden etc.

Thanks for these comments and Dave G above.

The BT list is very useful and I will go through it. But I worry that BT Models are really 1:160 as the one I have looks tiny though otherwise very excellent - Foden DG6 flatbed. It is about the same size as my two Oxford Scammel Scarabs and is dwarfed by an Oxford Lodekka - cant be right?

Agree with Dave G.  Painting a casting from an old mould doesn't appeal to me either.

I have asked for clarification on the base toys and been assured they are 1:148  I suspect the oxfords much horses are slightly wrong not sure either or both could be wrong.

BT's Foden , Albion ,and BMC FG are all the same size on the two axle ridgid lorry ,so I find it difficult to believe they are all accurate. I have bought them anyway

The latest edition of "Model Collector" magazine includes some Toyfair photos including one previously unannounced model - a Mercedes Sprinter ice cream van in Walls livery.

Here are a couple of new cars I found at Basingstoke today

Having bought 12 more BT models and Oxford Diecast models which all look correct together I am firmly convinced the Bristol Lodekka is way too big. The equivalent Farish one is probably the right size.

Having compared the length of the Oxford Lodekka with that of the real thing it comes out nearly spot on 1:148 . I feel however BT models are built to fit a parts bin ,the 16 ton Foden DG uses exactly the same chassis as the Leyland FG 7 ton van as do the Karrier ,Albions,Commers and largerLeylands
