I have been putting some captions on photos using the text editor in Picasso, I then save the file. I have noticed some errors in the captions but can not find a way to open the file that will enable me to edit the existing text. I have searched the internet but can not find anything, as Picasso is no longer supported the help tab does not work either.

Any suggestions please?

Do you mean "Picasa" ?

In order to keep the image editable you'd have had to save in a format which maintains all the layers and objects you add.  That's what photo editors like Photoshop do.

Wikipedia  says Picasa used to store a "picasa.ini" file in the same folder as the image.

Once saved or exported as a "jpeg" or similar then the image in that file has been "flattened" to just the pixels and you have no way of editing just the text you added, unless you still have the other file with the details of the layers and objects.

you might find a tool like
https://www.gimp.org/
useful. has current support and can store files in a format that keeps the layers separate, where you can also export as jpg etc.

it may seem complex but for adding text it should do the job admirably?

Another helpful (and free) editor is pixlr - there are two versions, basic and advanced, and both are free. If you've used any image editing software before the learning curve isn't steep at all.

The huge upside is that it's completely brower-based. I have a PC, a Mac and a Chromebook and it works identically on all three platforms and there's nothing to install.

Here's the link to the website:
