Portland-Docks,

The Minitrix ones I've owned for years, they turn up from time to time on auction sites.

None of the BCKs (three 3rd class and two 1st class compartments) they modelled survive in preservation.
However there's a BCK originally built with two first and two third class compartments under cover on the NYMR converted as a breakdown carriage
http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=988
which could be converted from the Minitrix version.

I had a problem with some of my Dapol Gresley stock randomly uncoupling.  My solution was to swap Rapido couplings for the dummy knuckle type.  But it would be better if Dapol could stop making droopy couplings...

portland-docks

the only way i can solve it at the moment is buy glueing two couplers together then putting them in the pockets, but all it means is the train can only more or less go on straightish track as soon as it tries curving anything like two sets of points (NYMR style) they derail so iv got to try keep them on one loop, akward buggers!

I would rather have had one in RFD or Intercity, but it'll do

Just nabbed myself a nice second-hand bargain (£26, so it really was a bargain). Another Fowler 4F for my collection, although this one will (hopefully) be re-lettered and renumbered as an S&DJR loco:

After a wheel clean, a bit of oil on the cogs, and an hour's running-in, it's going nicely. It needs tender pick-ups, though. A job for another day (once I've learnt how to do it!).

The only little problem is that it's missing the rear coupling. Before I open up the tender chassis to check, does anyone know off the top of their heads which version of Rapido I need for this? :hmmm:

I seem to be collecting 4Fs, so in time I hope to have the new one alongside my old faithfuls. I'm even hanging onto a Lima version just in case I can use the chassis for a kit version.

That's a nice looking rake of coaches.

I have a rake of maroon Minitrix Gresleys myself, they really are lovely models and were so far ahead of anything else when by Minitrix introduced them in the late 80s.

portland-docks

the minitrix gresleys are a stunning set.

i know they arent accurate to what railways have now but im trying to use the dapol ones as a NYMR teak set and i want to use minitrix as a SVR teak set...but like i said SVR are trailing a long way as i only have a break end...oh well if i get an N2 at least it can do a shuttle with 2 dapol teaks included lol

Went down to the local shop for some spare coupling springs, and hidden in the bottom of the display cabinet were these:

Ooh, you've got Dogfish! I said.  :bounce: It's not catching is it? was the reply...

Apparently he has some more 'in the back room' - when I find how many more I can fit in, I'll go back for more...

In several areas they are considerably better than the Dapol ones - like having the bogies in the right place.

I've been getting on modifying my class 45 peak & couldn't resist buying a couple more to add to the fleet :-[

They will also be modified as some point when they've been run in  >:D
also bought 4 Dapol unpainted 21T wagons to have a go at.

cheers, Stu. :)
