I didn't think I'd go green but couldn't resist this:

Such a perfect runner too.

Its on my shopping list for this year too :heart2:

Good to hear you've got a good runner at last, stevieboy! Actually out of all my 'new' Farish purchases, my 24 is probably the worst runner! It'll be purring along quite happily, but then decides to make meshing and grinding noises every now and then. I did mention it on the forum a year ago or so, and did get some suggested remedies, but me being the basically lazy sod that I am have never bothered to attempt putting them into effect.

It's still a lovely model, though. I particularly like the headcodes feature.

I have 3 Class 24's and they are all soooo smooth and quiet. In fact, they're so quiet I have to keep looking for the little blighters to see where they've got to :)

Mine made a slight noise in one direction, like a buzzing sound but very intermittently.  So i whipped off the shell and had a look to see what was what.

I lubed sparingly what I could see and then ran the loco after each drop.  The culprit turned out to be one of the worm gears being a little dry where it sits in the chassis (not the teeth themselves).

Thanks for that! Sounds easy enough for me to give it a try. I think I said on here somewhere before that I am loath to pull things apart as I do not have confidence in my ability to put them back together, but your fix sounds like I should be able to manage it.

Cheers!  :beers:

They look nice! Were they expensive? Just had an idea, they would look good on my colliery sidings boxfile layout! 8)

I've gone green crazy now and bought this:

It's currently running in but was quite a nice slow runner out the box, albeit a little tight.

When it's run in it'll be sharing the pulling of these with the Class 24.  Just waiting for BSK to arrive:

I took a comparison picture the other day, old news I know but the detail compared to my 20 year old Mk1's is amazing

Ohhh Noooo

Steve - what have you done? You've let the MK1 monster loose again

stevieboy

I thought I'd get some pic's up for Ollie, as he was kind enough to demonstrate the running qualities of a couple of steamers for me when I visited the shop on Weds.
