Just announced, Wishbone Ash, ok so it's just Andy Powell from the original band and 3 others, will be playing the Corn Exchange in Devizes supported by Ruzz Guitar who I have seen many times in October 2024.

I was at the gig below:

Giving a first listen to Peter Gabriel's latest album "i/o", released a couple of days ago.

Not really sure what I think yet. It's beautifully produced as you would expect, and musically it's quite restrained and almost moody. It doesn't rock as hard as his early solo work but I think it will grow on me. Some of it reminds me of later songs by Tiger Lou (one of my favourite alt-rock artists).

Yep, I had that album. Great cover!

Dunno what happened to it, though  :(
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Here's a great little band that I've seen a couple of times in the last 25 years.

And now I'm diving into Gabriel's back catalogue which is bringing back disconcertingly vivid memories of my student days...

This album from 1980, sometimes called "3", sometimes called "Melt", is definitely his best. Every track is an absolute gem, and "I Don't Remember" is (I think) the best song he ever recorded. The whole thing was way ahead of its time and over 40 years on it sounds like it could have been released yesterday.

Andrew, you have inspired me to have a listen to early PG. "So" was my favourite but I have never been a huge fan. I did have a quick listen to "i/vo" - not sure either, perhaps a bit unfair but these days if a piece of music doesn't grab my attention straight away it tends to be a "miss"...

Cheers,

Tim

This is my all time favourite Gabriel track and you don't ses many artists preform whilst riding a pushbike around the stage either. It still surprises me how many people think this track is about Salisbury rather than Solsbury Hill though. I met a hippy type couple once on Pepperbox Hill just outside Salisbury who believed they were on Solsbury Hill. I politely explained to them they would have to drive their old battle bus to Batheaston to find the actual hill. I think they had also partaken in some form of illegal substance so I have no idea if they made it there but they did leave me and my then girlfriend in peace  :-*

Yep it's brilliant.

However, in order to successfully dance to it, you need exactly 1.75 legs.

Thanks for posting John @Trainfish , Peter Gabriel's departure from Genesis resulted in Genesis producing (IMO) their finest album in "A Trick of the Tail" and an excellent debut from Peter Gabriel; which, bore little resemblance Genesis (I had it on vinyl at long time ago).

Cheers,

Tim

Oddly enough I'm playing Genesis at the moment - the excellent 'Nursery Cryme' to be followed by one of the best live albums (IMHO) 'Seconds Out' including the epic 'Supper's Ready'

Moonglum

Crikey, I had "Nursery Chryme" taped on my reel-to-reel (Akai 4000DS).  I had "Seconds Out" originally on vinyl and bought an immaculate second hand copy from our local charity shop a few years ago for 50p - a bargain and as Mick @Newportnobby says a fine live album.

Cheers,

Tim

PS the only vinyl I have now is Triang Railways "Railway Rhythm" a 45 single! Oh... a two singles by a punk band called Prag-Vec as a school friend was the bassist.

OK, you piqued my curiosity. I had dismissed early Genesis (pre-Duke) based on a few short YouTube sample listens, but now I've listened properly to A Trick of the Tail, and I definitely like most of it. Cheers!

Another band I saw several times who had tamed the 'awkward' mellotron. I do have 2 vinyl albums but maybe don't have as much as I should considering how much I like them.
