Touching story Mick. I have a similar history , but it does make you feel proud of what that generation gave up for us.

Similar reason why I bought D601 Ark Royal, my Dad was on the original in WW2.
S&D lives on - sort of!

This is my latest purchase, BR Standard 5MT 73065, a sound fitted and custom weathered bargain from TMC in their recent sale. A loco quite at home on the GC in later years, albeit not as ubiquitous as the Black Five..

I'm very pleased with how these Three Peaks Models L&Y Diagram 3 Covered Goods Wagon kits have turned out. I had avoided buying them before but yielded when the transfers were made available.

I've no idea how the pics become rotated sometimes when I post them. At least they're not upside down this time!

Thanks, John, but no stock. Drat - should have got one earlier :(

If anyone out there managed to pick up a spare, I will gladly pay you double for it!

Ark Royal on active duty at New Bridges. This photo is during loaded test runs fresh out of the box, so the detail pack hasn't been touched yet. I do intend to put the CRE headboard and 2 white discs up at some point. It's a beautiful model, the speed control is excellent, it doesn't zoom around like a rocket but looks very prototypical at 3/4 speed on my Morley controller, giving a scale approx 75mph. It runs well on Unitrack, and after an initial hesitance over my #6 points and level crossing it now runs over them happily at up to at least half speed, which works really well with my trackplan. I am so pleased to see a RTR D600.

My Christmas and New Year holiday project was to build these Peco (ex Parkside) kits. Overall I'm pleased with the outcome all the more because I found the LNE one a pig to build because of the large amount of fettling of pieces required. I'll run them for a bit like this before applying dirt and maybe a coal load. I need a bigger railway - the fiddle yard is at maximum capacity and I can't add any more sidings!

A busy week.
Wednesday - took delivery of my Sonic Vanwides (pack of 3 - something for the weekend, Sir? ;) )
Today - Dapol weathered gunpowder vans arrived along with the return of my D601 Ark Royal from Ensign Elliott's weathering workshops.
