Count me in, although due to the landlord hitting us with the 2 months notice, it'll have to be after I've found a new home for my layout.

Evening all,

Here are a few pics from the visit to Sheaf. Sadly they are not the best as Sheaf is currently in it's 'stored' state owing to the living room being taken up by a layout i'm building for someone!

I hope steamerdave is ok too.  Hopefully he is just away travelling with work.

So, i guess that means i am next.

I hope to have a video camera delivered before the coach arrives! Brand new 1280x960 micro HD for $18. Not expecting it to actually work, but worth a try for what is about 12 quid. US seller, half the price of the Hong Kong seller and free postage!  We'll see.

I will be around to receive the coach and play with it, and get it sent on to Chris within a week.  :camera:

Having said that first week of Sept i am busy with my daughter visiting, so it depends how quick you can make a new one!  :smiley-laughing:

On a more serious note, should we have a rule that you have to confirm your 'availability' before it gets posted to you? Either by posting here or by PM with Tank and the current participant? That might save another 'delay' to the railtour.  Not sure if steamerdave had confirmed and whether it would have avoided this hiatus, but might be a good thing to do anyway.

Good idea muster, especially as we are coming in to the holiday season.

I wouldn't want it sitting on my desk at work while I'm away for two weeks doing beached whale impressions, and admiring the latest graffitti on the Portuguese DMUs.

Well, no news from SteamerDave still.  I'm just waiting for Adam @ Electra to send me some more vinyl's and I'll apply them to another coach.  I've asked it to have different numbers on this one, just in case the other one comes back on the tour.  :)

Would it be possible to be added for the new coach? If possible to have it before TINGS so the coach could be displayed for the show?

its funny cos i was actually thinking of making a rake of blood and custards with n gauge forum on the side of it, which can be used at various layouts at exhibitions....you beat me to it with...a coach....

i might do it anyways for when our nymr layout gets done and into the exhibition circuit!

i wouldnt mind seeing the new coach for myself mind....as i might actually change my livery to the green and cream livery ;)

The NGF Coach arrived in Reading as part of an historic heritage train and I have been to Boots on the High St to get my films developed.

The N Gauge Forum organized this "Steam and Diesel Legends Tour" and provided the special coach for its members to ride in.  Tickets were £1.50 members and £1,500 non-members, with lunch in the Platform 4 Buffet (ham sandwich, plain crisps and a coke) included.

Mallard, holder of the steam speed record since 1938, lead the train into Reading.

As previously posted Western Zephyr held the diesel speed record back in 1974 and was at the rear of the train as it approached Reading from Paddington.  After the Lancaster fly past, the heritage train trundled very sedately into a busy Reading station where Western Zephyr took over at the front.

I have collected all the photographs together and put them into one album as this thread has become more comments than pictures.

Please, who ever gets the coach, post your pictures here so people can comment then I will copy them over to the album.

I would like the album to be clear of comments apart from the members comments about their own photographs.

The link for the album: http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=media;sa=album;in=210 (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=media;sa=album;in=210)

Thanks John.

Scotsoft is right...

I actually print out yellow circles the same diameter as the supplied propellers so that the edge of the circle is yellow and the middle is white.

Then on my inkjet i print out onto the transparency film that has a kind of texture that absorbs the ink.  This is not quite clear and helps to give the impression of the propeller blades.

Only caution is that you cannot get the textured bit wet at all... The film stops being see through and you need to replace it.  Can be annoying!

I'm quite happy to wait my turn in the list but if the next Chris in the list is Chris Eve and Old Warren TMD then it might make sense for him to pass it to me after he's done as I'm about one mile away. If thats a problem for those above me then I'll just wait my turn.

So, the return trip through Reading on its way to Old Warren was delayed somewhat due to leaves on the line at Crewe.  However, it gave the tour the chance to be pulled by Silver Link.  Here we see the coach coming through Reading and then south on the line that heads off to Ascot.

Your layout looks fine to me Zwilnik.  It's all part of the fun by showing our layouts in various stages.

That bit's actually the yard from Ives Yard, which I decided to recycle as the 'Upper Yard' for Ivebridge. So I've cut out that section of the board to incorporate on the new one. At the moment it's the only bit with scenery on :)

Having the coach arrive inspired me to make a start on the scenery. Got the plaster/depron work done on the facade cliffs with 2 of the tunnel entrances and hiding all the Kato track behind it.

from station side looking up to the bridge.

The full facade. Depron sheets with plaster bandage. The unpainted area on the left behind the viaduct will be where a small waterfall fills a pool and feeds the top of a river/canal navigation running under the left-centre arch to a small wharf at the end of the front sidings.

What a beautiful viaduct. Great to see trains going through big landscapes, it really shows why N is so good. I can't wait to see this landscape develop.

Great work, keep the updates coming.

A little more of the scenery done and my first ballast test around the viaduct. A few more shots before the coach takes a quick side trip to my brother's Dunmarsh layout and then on to its next destination :)

Hey all,

The coach took a small unexpected detour to Dunmarsh from bro's new layout, before hopefully getting posted on its way tomorrow.
As usual Dunmarsh is in a state of constant redesign, with what was a marshland in the centre now ripped up and about to become a deep harbour, thus the shot here doesn't show the gaping bit hole in the layout! You might be able to make out a new harbour walls I've casted out of PP from a fimo model at the top left of the pic, I've been having great fun sculpting lately :)

cheers,
Veng

So it finally came to pass...

A single visitor to the Land of the Rising Sun from that other island nation made its way along the JR Eastern branch to Kanjiyama as part of a rail tour. Visitors from Europe are not without precedent to this part of the world; a number of wagons have made their way across over the past few years...and all seem to have made their way along this little backwater.

We first see the carriage at Kanjiyama forming part of one of JR Eastern's railtour sets...top and tailed by a pair of DD51 locos. DD51 1192, coupled to the carriage, provides the heating as DD51 1156 is now a freight-only machine.

Ready for departure...

Much to everyone's surprise, the carriage was back at Kanjiyama, along with DD51 1156. Both were noteworthy visitors, as the DD51 is normally seen several hundred miles north, being a Hokkaido allocated freight machine; as testament to its livery.

News is that this visit is rather short, and the carriage will be moving on elsewhere in the very near future...

Thanks...but this looks to be one of those situations where the camera is less cruel than reality! Ballasting is not my favourite modelling activity, but at least stuff doesn't derail and the points switch properly...

Still much to do on the layout...

It was received earlier this week, as was my Medite 66 from the raffle, so seemed appropriate that it should delivery the coach to Longford Town ready for the tour.

Thanks guys, the layout is not mine but a non-forum member's as mine is still not as a stage to run anything on. Excuse the selotape holding the platform together but it was too tight for stock to get into the platform without bashing otherwise.

The Peco shed was build and modified by Steven (bees) as this was his layout before he sold it to Andrew. It is usually now a home for the cat unless I go round to "play trains" with him.

Glad the coach made it to you Chris. Some excellent shots you have taken. Liek NPN I too like that Thomas has made an appearance.

Regards, Tony

The NGF special arrived at Salisbury South behind a class 71 loco, the consist being as follows:
> a former test coach, still full of gagetry of interest to railfans
> a pullman bar car, NGFers like alcohol in comfort
> la piece de resistance: the NGF tour coach
> a pullman parlour car, NGFers like their comfort
> a boring old Mk1 brake composite. BR insisted on this for "technical reasons".

After making a technical stop at platform 5, she proceeded down the single track branch to Salisbury City. Several EMUs were demoted to the little used platform 3 while the special sat in platform 1, the only one with run-round facilities.

It was then that it was realised the NGFers had drunk the on-board bar dry, and lost interest in the railway gadgetry in the test car. The organisers in their wisdom had considered this possibility, and two beer wagons were rushed down the branch behind a 73, and coupled up in place of the test car, and plumbed-in directly to the bar.

In order to continue its journey west, the new consist then returned to South. An EMU was occupying platform 4 (my fault, sorry!), so it went in to platform 5 and had to shunt to platform 4 where a Warship was attached for the journey to Exeter.

Finally the train was disassembled in the Exeter/Westbury fiddle yard, and the carriage dumped unceremoniously in the DMU stabling point.

The Forum Coach finally arrived at Overthorpe via Exeter West, hauled by a 47 on it's way to Hammingwell TMD for light repairs.

Unfortunately the coach had an unservicable coupling so was shunted off the main line into Overthorpe sidings to await recovery to the  Depot.

An 03 was promptly despatched from the depot for recovery of the problem vehicle

At the depot the fitters repaired the problem much faster than if this was a BR Depot!

The NGFers were once again on their way, coupled up to a pair of 25's on their way on a circle railtour!

On returning to Hammingwell the NGFers waited patiently for a spare 37 to run them back East towards Hasford Blacklock

Bye Bye NGF Tour 2012 and hello 2013 !!

. . .  towards Halsford Blackstock

Towards where???

I'd better notify the station staff at Hasford Blacklock to expect a drunken mob coachload of polite NGFers soon ;)

Good pics anyway

:NGaugeForum:And so the final leg of the Tour was from Hammingwell to Hasford Blacklock, not an easy journey as although the distance wasn't far (just around the corner! :D ) it involved travelling into the future and crossing some unusual terrain including rough ground . . .

. . . oversize vegetation . . .

. . . this rather unusual rubber viaduct . . .

. . . and some strange advertising hoardings . . .

. . . but it finally made it into the late 80s!!  ;)

Here's the diary of that final day:-

The expresses were at scale speed ;) If you mean the acceleration rate blame the driver, it appears that as well as a lead right foot on the road she has a lead right thumb as well  ;D
