Title: What's the damn point?
Post by: TrevL on August 07, 2019, 10:25:53 AM
Having recently ordered three separate items off ebay, they have kindly supplied Royal Mail tracking numbers. However, when going in the RM tracking site, and entering the numbers, all three say they will update tracking information after they attempt to deliver.  What the  :censored: use is that?  There might as well be no tracking info at all.  So now I'll. have to stay in to wait for the postie. :veryangry:

Because it's not really tracked, it purely offers a proof of delivery. It's why "recorded" is now just called "signed for". If you want items actually tracked then you have to pay for Special Delivery.

Like I said, what's the point.  I will add that I also sent for another item which was free postage and also tracked by RM, and the info tells me it's coming tomorrow between 10.22 and 13.22 tomorrow, go figure!

The seller can prove you did actually receive the item. It's of no benefit to you.

Correct, no benefit to me, so no point giving me the tracking number.

eBay does it automatically if you buy postage through them (which is also cheaper), and uploading it is also a requirement to avoid them automatically siding with the buyer in the case of non-delivery.

I take you don't have an arrangement with your postman to leave a delivery with a neighbour when your out?

We've got our favourite postman back who is a gem - but I know some refuse outright to do it, even though it is more effort for them to have to return it to the sorting office

Guess it depends on how honest your face is
