Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

Want one want one...

But HOW MUCH..

I will just wait until Hailstone buys one and then I can just drool over the box...
Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

I have the feeling that soon enough this price may become standard :(

Ordered in June 2014 at the pre-order price of £18.66 but Hatton's have added a note saying "RRP withdrawn by Bachmann so price estimated - we will notify you if price rises & offer option to cancel".   Be interesting to see if they offer any sort of discount for an early order.   :uneasy:

They won't give you a discount for ordering early, even though you did so before they changed their price promise, which at the time was that they would honour the price from the time of ordering, a promise that as it turns out is worthless. I had about £1000 of stock on pre order with them. I got so fed up with their attitude to their broken promise that I cancelled the ordered items with them and purchased elsewhere. They will not be getting any further trade from me.

However, back on topic and onto the model, it looks great. The price is high, but that is very much the way that prices are heading.

Karhedron

The model does indeed look lovely. I don't have any of the Dapol ones in Maroon livery as the older style ones were generally being withdrawn by this point but the Hawksworth ones look great in it (and a lined green 64xx to match).

I agree that the price increases are painful. I had 2 on pre-order but the price has almost doubled since then so some hard decisions will be necessary. :(

To be fair, I don't blame Hattons for breaking their price promise. They made that promise in an era when prices rises from year to year were in the low single-figure percentage points. If they honoured their price promise of £18-£19 pounds, they would likely be selling at a loss.

Yes, I wish they had not changed their policy retrospectively but that is partly selfishness on my part. It would benefit nobody for Hattons to go out of business over the issue.

Ben A

Hello all,

Not my era at all, but I had a look at this at the York show on the Bachmann stand (surprised no one with more of an interest posted any images - or maybe I missed them) and was very impressed.

TBH £35 (RRP - you'll get it for £32 maybe here and there) seems reasonable for a newly tooled model of this quality.

I have noticed that most retailers aren't putting pre-order estimated prices on things nowadays as it's unfair on the customer (who expects it to be honoured) and themselves (as they suffer reputational damage when it's not.)

Certainly Farish are not giving prices on their website for items still in tooling or development.

I wonder whether Hatton's list unrealistic prices to lure people in; banking on customers not jumping ship when the price goes up.

They are listing Mk2f coaches for £17.81 pre order price.  Does anyone honestly think that is the price they will be?  The next iteration of their Mk2a coaches have RRP of £29.95- and that's not new tooling.

Mind you, to be fair to Hattons whatever the eventual price is they are likely to be among the lowest.

cheers

Ben A.
