After weeks of planning, British Rail (Western Region) are commencing redevelopment of Port Perran station.
The existing station buildings dating from 1880 will be replaced and the station layout will be realigned.
No trains will run from Port Perran for several months but through trains will be allowed through initially subject to severe speed restrictions.

Earlier today the very last train left for Truro at 18.35 headed by a Pannier 0-6-0.

For the foreseeable future buses will replace train services to and from Port Perran :

The track gang and demolition crew will start work tomorrow !
I'll get round to fixing it drekkly me 'ansome.

Geoff

Good luck with the demolition, do not be to cruel lol.

The demolition gang have moved in with almost indecent haste !
But through trains can continue to pass through the site of the old station (subject to a 5mph speed restriction):

But the through lines have now been lifted completely and the station area has been virtually cleared.
Specialist heavy welding gear has been shipped in at huge cost to British Railways !

So....haven't posted any pictures at all lately so a bit of an update after many hours installing point motors and wiring for street and platform lights etc. Plus constructing a simple control panel.
So..........just a section of the wiring under the baseboard. Just a few loose wires to be tidied up still :

And this is starting to redevelop the station area. Card and platform edging being placed for clearance etc. The scenic sea area to the front of the baseboard is temporarily removed:

And the station area this morning !  Platforms all finished and platform  lighting installed and tested. Platforms glued down and weighted down to ensure that they stick well :

The Class 52 in the background was the final test train for clearance as it's my longest loco.  Once the weights are off it's final testing of lighting then I can start to add the platform "furniture" etc and add the Metcalfe stone station building which replaces my original brick built one.
I can then renew the ballasting and add the scenic bits and pieces around the station area.
I'll get round to fixing it drekkly me 'ansome.

Many thanks for the updates, Martin. Please, keep them coming.  :photospleasesign:

This comment if yours sounds almost as if you're modelling the Beeching Axe in action!  :D

All the weights now off and all seems to be OK :

The station lights work (phew!). They are not yet firmly fixed in place hence the alarming angles. Also other lights (eg signal box) are on another circuit which will be wired in tomorrow (hopefully).
The area to the left of the pannier will be a parcels exchange platform. Also need to add a workman's hut and all the platform furniture etc.
Ballasting can soon commence and then I can add the new sea wall (which is constructed and painted but awaiting fixing) and I can then re-attach the "sea/beach " which is a detachable front board.
That piece of track to the right of the Western is not meant to be there (just a spare piece!).
Sorry the picture is just a little off focus.

That looks really neat - love the curved section.

What card kit did you use btw?

Station Building and Signal Box are Metcalfe.
Platforms are built using largely Peco platform edging with plasticard platform surfaces.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do, Martin; I have the Peco platform stone edges (straight and slopes) and the Peco SR concrete platform edges. As Cant Cove is on a gentle curve though I will have to curve the edges and surfaces. I look forward to seeing the close-up pictures.

Glad to see that BR (WR) will have full services at Port Perran in operation for the Easter holidays! 8-)

BR Engineering (Western) have been very busy! I wonder if the new station at Dawlish will last as long as the new station at Port Perran?  ;D

Nice work Martin

OK. I'll try to get some close ups this week. I've just permanently fixed the platform lights into position but that posed a problem (which I should have considered earlier!) because the stem of the light which sits beneath the platform surface is longer than the gap between the platform surface and the top of the baseboard. Hence, I needed to carefully drill down into the baseboard to accommodate the stem.
I'm sure it will be worth it in the end !

Thanks, Martin. As I also want to have platform lights and lights in the buildings at Cant Cove I'll be following your experiences with great interest. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any working platform lights in a LSWR / SR style nor yet the concrete style lamp posts which were common on the WR and I remember from the 1960s. To fit the bulbs and wiring (I suppose) anything available for N that works is over size and (as you've discovered) that can also mean too tall! I have bought two pairs of ornate working lights (a German brand) for the station forecourt but nothing else, yet. I suspect they will also have to be sunk but as the baseboard top is covered in insulation tile that is not a big problem.
