I think Australia still has the real Woolworth shops. It's just here that they closed down.

Its such a shame they closed down in the UK, I used to enjoy shopping there. I feel sorry for all those people who lost their jobs as well

When I was aged 7-10 my parents ran a corner shop in Wolverton, Bucks and, of course, we had access to the Sweet Corner so Black Jacks, Salad Chews, Shrimps, Flying Saucers etc appeared in the 1d tray. There were many different flavoured Spangles, Fruit Polos, Pineapple Chunks etc.
Nowadays, the only place to find Pineapple Chunks is in the gents toilets at Service stations - but they don't taste so good!

A friend of ours has recently opened a retro sweet shop (complete with glass jars, counter & scales) not too far from me, but thankfully just too far to walk to.

The only thing she can't get are Riley's Chocolate Toffee Rolls, which apparently are no longer made.

Does anyone else remember being able to buy a single cigarette?

The head cook at our school used to sell us kids single cigrettes at breaks and lunch time. You just leant across his serving counter  ( not like your thinking you dirty minded member   ),reached underneath, drop a threepenny bit into his pot and take a ciggie. He would just nod to you and carry on cooking
