Cleaning up one of my garden borders this morning I came across over a hundred of these. They are in a nylon type material 10mm diameter with about 20 teeth, and about 8mm deep. My money is on them being discarded by a vaper or something similar, but I really don't have a clue.

Anyone know what they are, please?

The beginnings of a self-replicating alien machine?

They look like they might be found on the inside of some sort of hosepipe attachment or similar, but that's just a random guess.

Let's hope a member of the cognoscenti will know more.

Have you tried washing them and then boiling for ten minutes?

They look like pasta to me.

They look like bio media that form part of the filtration system for a pond, koi keepers use them.

Gary

Edit look like K2 or K3 media depending upon dimensions

Were they found in one cluster or spread out around the border?

Thanks for identifying these. It sort of makes sense. Our previous neighbour had a pond which was removed about 2 years ago. However the current neighbour's garden has just been redeveloped and re-fenced, so the earthworks have generated all these.

I knew someone here would know the source. I suspect that they have been mixed in with the soil and might be coming to the surface for a while to come.

Well, if they are bio media, maybe they'll still swell up like pasta when you boil em!

Wouldn't sample them though....  ;)
