My PC keeps crashing, freezing. It gives out a clung sound and the screen freezes, the pc sounds like it is still working. It was also turning off the monitor and printer. Now it is struggling to boot up.
help,,I am using phone for this.
hi richard
only time i had anything like that happen was 2 years ago it turned out the cooling fan on the graphics card was on its way out
or maybe the processor fan is playing up
apart from that i cant think of anything else that would make a "clung" sound sorry i can't be of anymore help
dave
Where's the sound from ? The speakers ? The base unit ?
Base unit
It does sound rather like the processor fan to me.
I had similar symptoms on 2 machines of mine and managed to spot it on a couple of other for people I knew.
I have reeplaced fans myself, but it can be a tight fit and it is possible to knock wires out.
It could simply be that the heat sink and fan a clogged with dust.
I'll give it a vacum tomorrow, thanks for advice.
I give mine a blow with the compressor every 6 months. It's amazing how much dust comes out, and the speed increases a lot.
Found the problem, fan on the vga card burnt out and broken, in fact hanging down.
Need to buy a new fan.
Cheers
For help.
Still crashing brought new graphics card, not staying up longer enough to install drivers.
Graphics card fan was burnt out so replaced whole card. Some times when it crashes it gives of 4 beeps every few moments. Main keeps switching off I have a desk fan sat blowing in through vents.
What BIOS do you have? AMI, Phoenix, Award? It tells you on the boot screen. Are the beeps all the same length?
Cheers finally managed to download drivers as CD rom didn't work.
All seems to be fine now. Thanks for help.
:NGF:
Did you uninstall the old drivers? It's also worth looking in Device Manager to see if all the hardware is working properly.
Crashing again will look into your suggestions Poliss
