I do not know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem but I am finding the site very slow of late. Its like going back years when everything was slow. I know Tank you said you were sorting the problems but for me at the moment its practically un-useable. It might be my age I am very impatient, I hate queue's for example. Hope its sorted soon, I really like this site. Chris
I have had a few slow moments tonight @lil chris (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1784) . I have also had a couple of 'time outs'. But, in general, the site is running a lot quicker than it has been.
Sorry to hear that. Zooming along for me tonight.
Just speeding along happily for me too.
Tues morning here in Oz, working fine.

Try clearing the Browser cache.
Oops! Now it's going so slooooowwww it's almost going backwards!
The fast again. Then slow...
Anyone for the NGF foxtrot. ;)
I have cleared the cache, but it took 19 seconds to load the post by daffy.
Slow for me too but all other websites visited worked fine.
Slow as a slow thing that want to slow university for me as well tonight
Hi everyone, I must admit its running faster now, but it was terrible earlier in fact I gave up and logged out. I keep my browser set not to save stuff and keep the cache clear. I am on supposedly a fast connection ie Virgin media, seeing has everything else loaded quick I assumed its this site. Anyway keep up the good work @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) its much appreciated.
Just a positive update.
All running well each time I've been online today. Same speed as all other sites I use.
Gremlins. :)
Thanks to all those who keep us happy.
Very slow between about 18.25 and 18.40 ish this evening.
Pages taking about 40 seconds to load and at 18.35 the site timed out before it loaded a page.
Almost back to normal now though.
Same here, but the 'slowness' and 'time outs' are very intermittent.

Same here.... But not really too much of a problem. :)
Log in page took 58 seconds to load and I've had 6 time outs in the last half hour. Just when I think of giving up for the evening it starts motoring again ::)
Pah. Spoke to soon as it timed out before accepting the post. Night
:helpneededsign:why not check where your signal ios coming from as it leaves the NGF server and travels via a number of nodes to your PC. my access is slow tonight (150mb pipe)
Windows users can use traceroute to do this -
Using Traceroute
Traceroute is a computer network diagnostic tool for displaying the route (path), and measuring transit delays, of packets across an Internet Protocol (IP) network. This section shows how to run Traceroute, and how to interpret the results.
Running Traceroute
To run the Traceroute utility, proceed as follows.
Open a Windows Command Prompt window.
At the command prompt, type, tracert ngaugeforum.co.uk
to examine the the domain name and extension that you would like to trace a route to).
It may take a few seconds to respond, but this command will give a traceroute from your computer to the destination you selected.
Note:
You can interrupt Traceroute at any time by holding down the CTRL key, and pressing C on your keyboard.
MAc users can use network utility App.(search with spotlight)
i get these results this evening
Traceroute has started...
traceroute to ngaugeforum.co.uk (209.42.193.165), 64 hops max, 72 byte packets

so your electrons travel a long way round!
if you have problems run traceroute and post the results here - it will help @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) decide where the problems may lie ( not necessarily at NGF Towers!
Hi Railwaygun,
Have absolutely no idea what you are talking about but thank you as might help someone else in need. Just leave me, save yourselves!
I'm getting slow, very slow, forbidden, slow again, fast, fast, fast, this site cannot be accessed, back on slow, OK, slow etc. for the last 4 days at least. Not moaning yet but just letting the powers that be know.
Don't worry, the fridge is right behind me :D
Cheers weave :beers:
PS Windows 7 PC.
I cannot replicate any of these problems. It's fast paced for me. :confused1:
My access and times have been okay to good most of the time. When the site is slow, so have others been.
It's cold, so I'm blaming frozen leaves on the line. :D
When it's running slow I note that the progress info box (bottom left when waiting for site to open) spends most of its time showing "Waiting for TLS handshake" this also shows when opening a thread.
Worst I had yesterday evening was over 1 minute to open the site followed by a further minute to open each thread
Lots of "This site cannot be reached" today and lots of reloads trying to get in :(
https://simplysociallyyours.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/it-takes-2-seconds-to-say-thank-you/
Tried Googling 'it takes 2 and half minutes to say thank you'. The only thing that came up was 'N Gauge Forum' :D and then I couldn't get in for a while .
Am still sticking with it, obviously, but it's getting nigglier and nigglier.
Hope it's still 'British Rail - We're Getting There!'
Cheers weave :beers:
Problems here too. "establishing a secure connection". timed out and just very very slow. It's almost unusable tonight.
here too.
I put in a Ticket request with the host. VERY slow tonight.
Even the usually unflappable Daffy is giving up trying to play here tonight, so hopefully the Host will react positively. thanks Chris.
Took me about four minutes to open, read and reply on this thread.
Worst performance I've noticed to date. Must be everyone logging in to read the disappointment about the Pacer :D
My patience ran out a couple of days ago. I'm getting more time outs than success at present. I think it's the worst it's ever been :unimpressed:
Thanks for you support Mick. ::) :)
Right, should be faster now. Busy night and not enough RAM.
Well - summat's happened 'cos it's been bombing along for the last 20 minutes :confused2:
Haven't been on for a while till just now (9.55) but it's flying at the moment
It's that fast now, the pages are loading before I click on them! Okay, slight exaggeration, but definitely better now.

Much faster for me too.

I've noticed that as well. It's the first time for ages that it has been sluggish.
I am having the same problem. Also, some pictures are not downloading, even ones from yesterday that I have previously seen. ???
Seems to have been slowing down for 2 or 3 days, today slowest for quite a while.
Monday morning here in Oz, seems OK
:sorrysign: to say the site is very slow this morning here in High Wycombe
Bob Tidbury
Still OK here.
Maybe cos it's downhill ;)
Hopefully it should be back up to speed now.
I will need to restart the server in a bit to allow some updates.
Hi
Unless it was the update or restart I just had a 504 error.
Cheers
Paul
Hi Tank,
I was offline for an hour but seems OK now.
Thanks for pedalling faster.
Cheers weave :beers:
Yes, should all be up to date now. :) :sorrysign:
For the last ½hr or so I haven't been able to log on as the site just times out.
Normal service still somewhat intermittent
Try reading the thread Mick... ::) :D

Naughty boy! :D
Seems to be back to normal now and I can download pictures. :) :thankyousign: @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2)
Yeah I lost it altogether here in Oz last night, in the middle of adding to my Japanese thread. Sighs of relief all round and an early night for Bealman :D
Very sluggish tonight but could be local server problem
Fine for me here.
Still sluggish.
Not sure it's things to do with being on phone and going through external free Wi-Fi.
Could be the VB ;D
No, that took ages.
I've been on a couple of times this morning and have had no issues. Blimey, George! What with the pics problem and this you're turning into a whingeing Pom ;D :P
Watch it. I'll be over there and sort you out at TINGS :P
Oh, to help this thread, this is now the third time I've typed the above thread to NewportNobby.
Things are sluggish tonite.
Is something wrong with the australian servers and net work providers? All ok here
Been away for a few days prior to me birthday and come back to find the Forum running at a snail's pace.
"TLS handshake" keeps coming up plus taking ages to load data from the NGF. :worried: @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2)
Nowt to do with this thread, but Happy Birthday Caz. :beers:
@Caz (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=202)
The forum is fine here but anyway....
Happy Birthday Caz.
Near instant for me.
No issues for me this week. Hope you had a great birthday, Caz!
It's OK here now too. This whinging Pom hopes you had a great birthday, Caz :beers:
Forum acting slowly and erratically here in Oz tonight, 8.04 NSW time.
No probs here in Blighty
no problems here either
Caz,
you did remember to feed the hamster in the wheel before you went ?
might just be he's hungry and on a go slow :smiley-laughing:
7.42 am and all back to normal. Probably my phone or something last night

Maybe that 'something' was the VB
Nah, spilt that down me throat, not over the phone :)
No problems in Paris.
