Here's a little scratch-built dumb-buffered 0-6-0T which I bought as a non-runner at an exhibition a few years ago for £10.

All it took to get it running was to open it up and re-solder a single loose connection; but when it failed again I decided to send it away to Jerry Clifford and have it thoroughly restored. Jerry replaced the original can motor (which intruded into the cab) with a smaller 2mm Association motor, stripped it down (as the paintwork was a bit chipped and shabby) and gave it a fresh coat of paint matching the original, and I collected it from him yesterday at the Portsmouth exhibition.

What I am wondering is who originally built it and when (it looks to me as though it was built in the 1960s or early 1970s: it has an entirely scratch-built chassis using bakelite for insulation) and whether it is based on any known prototype or if it is entirely freelance.

If anyone knows anything at all about Saemon, I'd love to hear from them!

Pre-Grouping: the best of all possible worlds!
