Looking for some inspiration for station names.
The layout is called Fairway Junction (broadly 80s/90s Network South East) on account of the fact that we live in a house built on what used to be a golf course.
I have a mainline station (2 platforms) and a small branch station (1 platform and a steam preservation society museum)
Any genius ideas ?
Cheers
Kieran
How about sticking to golf themed ideas? Don't know about station names (I don't play golf), but you could have a pub called the Hole in One! :beers:
The branch station could be "Putting Green" and the main line could be "xxxxxxx Links"
Hi Kieran,
Do you want golf related station ideas or something else?
Knowing this lot you might get inundated with first witty, then silly golfing names and get nowhere. Just a thought/warning.
Cheers weave :beers:
PS. As it's Network South East......

To keep it believable I'd not follow the golf theme. Things like Handicap Halt or East Bunker would be too twee.
I started by thinking about the prefixes and suffixes of real station names in my area. Grove PARK, WEST Dulwich, Beckenham HILL, Folkestone CENTRAL.
The "something FOR something" can be good i.e. Greenhithe for Bluewater.
Not forgetting "x AND x" i.e. Borough Green AND Wrotham.
Not near me but "Something ST. something" as in Exeter ST. Davids.
I'm soon to start my new layout Saxon Street which will have connections to stations at Cotton Hill and Farningham Central. So please don't pinch any of those!
Alec.
Hi again,
I agree with Alec not to go down the golf name route but when he suggested "X and X" I couldn't resist.
Pitcham and Puttenham :D.
Sorry, I'll get me clubs.
Cheers weave :beers:
Saying that, the real Puttenham isn't too far from me.
Using golfers' names, how about Norman Cross or Palmerston Road?

:laughabovepost:
Food for thought everyone, thanks.
I think I will keep the main station as Fairway Junction.
The little station, I'm still thinking about. I like the golfers names ideas - Ballasteros Parkway ? :smiley-laughing:

I quite like that - as it's the end of the line - maybe "Pitcham End" or "Puttenham End"
if you want a golfers name the I can't resist with "Tiger Wood(s)"
I'll leave now......
bogey halt ,pity your not modeling green era
... greenside.....
set it in the north an go fer ***** on tees...
what about Slicer's Wood....
or go Cotswolds..
with Chipping ******
Fairway Junction to Chipton Green.
Sounds good to me - golf-like but well disguised I think 👍
Stableford ???
or if in Cornwall....
Under Parr....
Keeping it literal you could go for actual station names such as Carnoustie, St Andrews Road, Troon, Gleneagles, Lytham and the less well known but genuine Denham Golf Club.
Also keeping it real there are a couple of stations that reflect my own golf game... Hook and Hope :dighole:
'stableford' is a very popular scoring system...
Take two maps:
1 your favourite railway region
2 your favourite golf course
Select the railway station that reminds you of your junction station. Put your golf courses start point (the tee?) of hole 1 on that station. Your favourite hole on that course will map to the nearest station on the railway map...
