I for one, would be very grateful if you'd do a photo "How to" on fixing split gears.  I still haven't plucked up the courage to tackle my Graham Farish scrap yard of locos awaiting repairs.

Andy

Here we go. A 'how to' on replacing split gears. It might take a while to complete as I'm clueless myself at the moment.  :D

Beautiful model, livery very well applied and runs very well out of the box.

Hi all just wanted to show off my latest addition , The dapol western in blue its a really good model. Gave it a run in 40 minutes each way then it was on duty here is a couple of pictures.

Unboxed today: Four Staniers and ten iron ore tipplers.  The coaches mean I've now got a rake of ten, which should look nice behind my prototype Deltic.  The tipplers, on the other hand, mean I'd better get a move on as that makes a 40 wagon rake to go behind a Farish WD 2-8-0 - but only two are weathered so far!

As one magazine said, it's a black tube on wheels:

Haulage is superb, 5.4m of train without a slip from standstill!

I went to my first show on Saturday, and all I came back with was this (and a nice load of photos of some great N Gauge layouts):

It's not often that I buy a brand new locomotive, but given that my layout is set in the 1960s WR I couldn't resist the Farish Westerns on sale for £49 at Hattons recently! It's a totally flawless runner and though not as accurate as the Dapol Western should still look decent after some weathering and detail painting. I'm also intending to rename/renumber it to D1069 Western Vanguard using the etched plates from an old Fleetline kit.

This LNER Sentinel steam railcar (Langley metal kit on an Atlas US chassis) is definitely a case of "Rule 1" but it's a prototype I really like, and I paid less (about £25 on eBay) for the complete model than a new kit would cost from Langley. It's actually a very nicely detailed model especially compared to other Langley loco kits - the moulding is very sharp and fine and it even has seperately moulded roof vents. It will eventually get a full repaint and some light weathering, but the existing paint job is not too bad so this isn't a priority.
It's not exactly at home on ex-GWR and LSWR rails and I've had serious thoughts of building a LNER branch line micro-layout to give me something to run it on!

A kato EH500 loco - a bargain (£67) new at Wheels of Steel ( bond st ) - C.London's last train shop! ( also has Ebay shop - not so many bargains,)

I've fitted a rapido coupler on one end  - the background wagon demonstrates that this is a rule 1 layout!

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;

A few more additions, I really should stop buying trains .

Class 08 in BR Green and a Dapol Pannier in BR Black. I've also got an 03 in BR Green but he's camera shy  :camera:.

and a few wagons that need to be weathered.....

With regards to the Pannier, theres an hexagonal alley key kinda thing in there. Any idea what this is for?

daveg

Nice stuff CC but as for that key; not a clue!  :confused1:

It would be so-o very nice of Dapol if they gave some info on the goodies they supply with their locos!

Still on the 57XX, I'd like to know how they managed to get the sleeve so tight over the acrylic box!
