Hi I wonder if any one knows if you can get an 0-4-0 loco has to be british I have looked every where but I know that some one will have an answer thank you

keithfre

The only one I can think of is the Adams B4 tank. Peco used to do a kit, which went on an Arnold chassis. You can sometimes find them secondhand.

You don't say whether you want steam or diesel. Keithfre's suggestion is a new one on me, but there is always the dreaded Lima shunter. The body is totally fictitious but I have used the chassis under a GER tram loco kit. The main drawback is that it accelerates like Lewis Hamilton and has a top speed of about 200 mph! There are always a few for sale on eBay:

There is a Peckett W6 body on shapeways to fit a Japanese chassis. Not tried it though so I dont know how good it is.

There was also the peckett kit which also went on the Arnold chassis, and a sentinel kit which goes on the old farish HST power bogie!

Likewise, there are very few 0-4-0 loco's available ready to run in N gauge. Your best bet would be 3d printed kits available from shapeways and designed to go on a 0-4-0 chassis that you can get on ebay.

Below are a few links to some items that are available that may help:

If you want an 0-4-0 chassis in N gauge it might be worth looking across the pond - Bachmann, Atlas & others have made them - somewhere in my box of American N locos I have a few.

I have the Peco B4 on a Minitrix chassis with the middle wheels removed.
Or try one of the continental ones with bits removed to make appear more British?

You can never have to many Warships!

As others have written, no RTR British 0-4-0s have ever been made for N Gauge, which is disappointing. So, it's kits, 3D prints, or hacked about US/Continental prototypes.

All of these choices involve work and a degree of compromise over scale accuracy, but we are discussing working locos the size of your thumb, so I for one am happy with some compromises.

I'd rather have the "right" loco that's off a bit, than the "wrong" loco that's more perfect, but doesn't belong in that context.

FWIW, industrial 0-6-0s are also pretty thin on the ground, so I decided to make some of my own .
