I have just been browsing the catalouge and especially the BR Ventilated Vans.

What and where are the different colours used for?

Bauxite.
Olive Green
White
Light Blue

Agrippa

Possibly for perishables like meat and fruit, though I don't
know what the colours signified.

Not sure. Parcels maybe?

QuoteThe insulated van used for meat and other chilled products.... These vans were originally painted white with black lettering. A few of the meat type insulated vans (which had hooks inside to hang the meat on) were painted in Southern Railway 'stone' in the early days (add a little white to Humbrol Dark Earth for this colour). All the insulated stock was re-painted 'ice blue' with white lettering after about 1957. I understand that these insulated vans were also used for fish but I have no definite information on this traffic.
relating to British Railways practise, there's an awful lot of material to read through - use the 'back' buttons (top left hand page corners to get to the beginning), and the modelling relates to N/2mm.

Thought I saw a one with "Izal" on it, once in a catalogue a long time ago... was that an English toilet roll brand? Anyway I think the van was olive green.

The livery was probably fictional, but the way my memory is these days, the whole thing might have been fictional.  :uneasy:

Very painful schooldays memories flooding back, I guess they used it to deter wasteful multi-sheeting  :'(
