One of my colleagues has just had to have open heart surgery, went for a test and they wouldn't let him out of hospital, 4 days later chest cracked open and triple bypass.
Then just as he was about to be released from hospital he contracted whooping cough, and is now in isolation for 5 days. hopefully getting released in time for Christmas.

Needed a buffer for a Farish Warship. Price £1. Ordered 2 knowing the postage was going to be ridiculous. Sure enough, at checkout total price £7 for something that would maybe cost 30 bob in a jiffy bag :unimpressed:

I had a similar annoyance, in this case with Mr Kato's company. A few years ago when on a business trip to Switzerland I made a Rule 1 purchase as a souvenir of an SBB RE 620. This is manufactured by by Mr K's company and is sold via Lemke in Europe. Some time later a couple of buffers fell off and so I applied logical thinking - hmmm - Kato - Japan - why not? So I treks up to his Tokyo emporium I does - which has a massive spares department - but blow me down with a feather - I cannot purchase directly there. They only provide spares for Japan market products. Instead I was told I must order via Lemke in Germanyland and get it delivered via international shipping... Coals to Newcastle or what! .... grrr. As you did @Newportnobby , I too ordered 2 sets of spares - this being under the rule that if one has a particular spare part on hand it is highly unlikely to ever be needed,  whereas if one doesn't then if and when said part is required there will be no stock anywhere in the system.......

That's bloody ridiculous.

A couple of years ago, maybe more, I bought a Dapol Brit Tornado off that second hand web place. Long before I'd found that Peedie Models did the WR style smoke deflectors as fitted after the Milton crash. So having received the loco I went off to buy a set but found Peedie were no longer trading in railway stuff but had passed them onto Online Models. But, big but, the smoke deflectors were now twice the Peedie price, still in Peedie packaging so probably transferred stock,  and there was a minimum £7 postal charge. So I sat on my hands a bit and eventually relented and bought the things online. To add to the injury it took two phone calls to gee them up to actually post them. Whilst a good product I can't say I was impressed with the service or costs but in the end it was a personal choice.

Well, it certainly has been a  :poop: few weeks here. In a nutshell, on 14th December, I started with what the Doctor decided was salmonella poisoning, which I am now about 90% over, although there are still a lot foods I don't fancy yet. (When is Christmas dinner?). I then developed a bladder infection, which is better than it was. Over Christmas, both Louisa and myself developed a chest infection, (one each!). Fortunately I do not pay much for prescriptions! But what has really sealed the  :poop: few weeks is that Louisa woke me up about 6.30 this morning, saying that 'Bella', our cat, was not 'right'. We have had 'Bella' for 25 years, since she was a kitten. A few years ago, she had to have an eye removed but managed brilliantly, however just lately, she has obviously been deteriorating - unsteady on her feet, walking into walls and she was literally a fur covered skeleton. I made an appointment at the Vets but have now cancelled it - Bella died a couple of hours ago. Hopefully she is now at peace and can join the other members of our little family we have lost over the years.  Bye Bella, we will miss you.  :(  :*(

Sorry to hear of your sad loss David, Mable sends her condolences too.

Hope everything improves through January and you are soon back to normal, probably best if you give up the groaners for a little while.

All the best for the year ahead.

Very sad to hear about Bella, and your health issues. :(
It's a sad fact of life that as we get older the list of what we can't do becomes longer than the one of things we can do

Papyrus

So sorry to hear that, David. 25 is a very good age for a cat - you have obviously looked after her very well. Not a good time for it to happen though on top of all your other woes. I hope you and your good lady get better soon and that 2025 improves from now on.

All the best,

Chris

RIP Bella. We've lost a few cats over the years and 'our' Bella is now 11 I think. Never gets easier when they depart. We currently have 4, not all called Bella of course, and it's always in the back of my mind that one day we'll only have 3.
Pretty sure your Bella would have had a good and spoiled life apart from when she was hearing your 'groaners'

Sincere condolences, Dave. It's never easy losing a pet. 25 is a great age though, and a credit to you both for the care you gave Bella.
Our Dalmatian, Tilly, is 13.5yo now and increasingly forgetful and a little arthritic. The arthritis we can manage but the brain stuff is more trying. I suspect she may have seen her last Christmas and it's breaking my heart already.

So sorry to read of your loss David.

Let's hope that 2025 is a better year for you and Louisa and that your health issues improve.
Best Regards
Martin
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

Many thanks to you all that have passed comment, the comments are appreciated. It is always sad when a pet has to leave us and 'Bella', although part of our family, was always described as my cat. She was our first pet when we moved to Ireland and will be the last. It is just so heart breaking when they do go, but on the plus side, there are all the semi feral cats that come to visit us every day. (That's the fault of Louisa!  ;) ).  Whenever I feel 'down', I always think of the this song, which immediately lifts me up -

Just like my wife and I said when our 19 year old ex wild cat died from kidney disease. It appeared that my dearly beloved was already feeding a wild cat in the plot next door. Within days of Arnie dying Daisy was making herself comfortable on the sofa. And several years later still does so!

Consolations David.

I've never been a huge fan of cats (one gave me a massive scratch on the face when I was seven), but recently a cat has decided it likes Chez Bealman, and turns up every day for a sleep in the garden.

We let it. I dunno if it's feral or not, but we leave it alone, it seems to like our place.

Pleased to hear you got over the salmonella bug.  :beers:
