Hi all,

Apologies if been on before but have just purchased a CIL static loco which I'd never heard of before. They are like the del prado ones but have couplings and the wheels run quite freely unlike the del prado ones.

Was just going to have as a static loco but have pushed it around corners and it seems to run ok. Just wanted to know if it could be towed behind a 'normal' loco? Read somewhere that del prado locos will short everything if not isolated but this seems different.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks weave

Use an ohmmeter and check that there is infinite resistance across each of the wheel sets - they usually have metal wheels with a plastic axle

Mine has plastic wheels so no problems ( an Italian 363) - there are brass chassis available to motorise some of them - look on ebay ( refs on this board by me)

the engineering looks very solid & well thought out, but I don't understand if these are full kits(with a body) or chassis only and the prices look low(ish)...?

these are brass chassis only - very solid and robust.

the bodies are del Prado or CIL models

I have the ETR500 one here.

Does need some tools (need to borrow a vertical drill if I read the italian right)

It's a heavy milled brass chassis with a central cavity holding a motor driveshafts and geared bogies. Reminds me a lot of older Minitrix/Fleischmann in its design. Subtle it is not, its basically a weight with a motor in the middle.
