Great job getting this new version up and running.  For me it seems to have been pretty painless and everything I use still works as it did before, at most a couple of things moved on the page but easily found (a credit to all the hard work carried out "under the covers"   )

I do hope the guests are not being put off joining!
There are a few things that are a little bit different or in a slightly different place, but to me many of the postings in this thread show a lack of willingness to explore the functions, or a failure to read when they ask the same question someone else gave a solution for a few posts earlier.
(plus one lemon who keeps asking the same thing over and over again about something that as far as I can see is no different to how it was before, and Admins saying 8 times now they are working on it!)

Fundamentally there is no functionality lost from pre-upgrade and for me at least improved performance. It feels mostly a resistance to change and for the end user those changes are mostly cosmetic...

We've leapt forward several steps of the forum software in one go so a lot of things have landed at once, rather than gradually so maybe that has unsettled some who are wary of change.
Certainly nothing about the forum itself that should put potential new members off... One or two members however...

I agree. The appearance has changed and a few things are in different places, but I'm finding my way around it now and it's much easier to use. I appreciate what @Tank says, that there are areas they are still working on, but that is only to be expected. I found you do need to change your account settings for notifications and the like, but that is just personalisation, like you would your emails or browser. I think the tech team are to be applauded for what they have achieved.

Cheers,

Chris

One thing I am missing and can't find is "search own topics" which used to be near the top along with unread posts etc. I've found "search own posts" under my profile but will I now need to bookmark my topics to find them more easily when I want to update them? Cheers

It's in the same place as "Show Posts"
[Messages] is your individual posts.
[Topics] is the topics you started.

Quote from: Newportnobby on July 22, 2023, 09:52:14 PMCannot bookmark a thread, and all my previous bookmarks have vanished which will be a real loss

I don't want to labour this but can we have some reassurance at some point (preferably while I'm still on this earth) we will regain our bookmarks. I found this capability hugely helpful in having a list of threads I am interested in, threads helping with best ways to do things etc etc
Simply saying 'Use the Search facility' just doesn't cut it

In the Profile Options you can select Notifications and within this there is a Watched Topics section. Et Voila the bookmarks from the old version!

Having used 'Notifications' > Watched Topics', it transpires the list is NOT a list of my bookmarked topics at all, not least because both my layouts and my test about Kato #4 points are missing from that list.
I have not a clue what defines a 'Watched Topic' but a bookmark it certainly is not.
Could I please ask @Tank and @NGFTech to look into restoring bookmarked topics and also the ability to bookmark new ones to add to that list?

Tank

Yes, it's on the list to be put on here, as soon as the original developer wishes to update it.

Quote from: GrahamB on July 29, 2023, 03:11:15 PMI use Chrome. Tried moving the font size to small and all pages went small. Using your screen scrape, do you not see what, to me, looks like a very old font?

I use Chrome on other PCs (just this spanking new laptop is running Win 11 and Edge).  Comparing the font with some old screenshots of the old forum I'm not seeing any obvious difference.

Chrome also allows me to change the font size of a specific tab without affecting the other tabs.  Use Ctrl+  or Ctrl-   rather than the Chrome Settings > Appearance font settings which are global settings.

When you use Ctrl+ or -  the browser should show you a small pop-up with the size increase/decrease (125%, 150% etc.) so see if it thinks the NGF pages are at something larger than 100% ?
Mine is set for 110%. 100% doesn't use the whole screen.

I'm still getting that huge expanse of nothing between the banner and the forum itself on my laptop (phone ok).

Sounds trivial, but it is becoming very annoying as it happens everytime I look at a post.

Anyone got a solution?  :hmmm:

One minor niggle - is it possible for a "Log out" button to be added to the top of the page along side "My Messages" and "Alerts"? Currently it's in the drop down menu which takes several seconds to open. Speeding up the drawing of the menu would be a solution to a minor problem!

It's something I've mentioned before (but can't be arsed to look for). Sheer habit makes me go to the main toolbar when I want to log out

I tried updating my Seamonkey browser but it's made no difference.

It wouldn't be so bad if the excess space was consistent but it's not - sometimes the blank space is practically nothing, other times it's as much as ten hits of the [Page Down] key.
