Title: disposal of surplus items
Post by: guest311 on August 08, 2019, 01:09:53 PM
after a chat with the boss [Tank] he said I could list a number of n gauge items for sale as a thread, rather than in the N emporium.

items are still being finalised, but will include mainly Farish class 37s and 47s, together with mk.1 carriages, and possibly Dapol mk.3s.

ALL ITEMS ARE STORED IN JB MODELS FOAM TRAYS, AND WILL NOT BE BOXED.

items will be listed as a price, including recorded p&p, plus a required donation to the forum funds to be made in addition by the buyer.

once items sorted, thread will be updated with the list and prices, and as [hopefully] sold the items will be noted in further updates as sold.

mostly BR blue / grey  stock, but some Scotrail may also be included.

prices will be aimed at recovering what I paid, and not the present listed prices.

regards
alan

I'd like to add to this, I have got to know Alan over the last 12/18months through purchasing direct, again all agreed with Tank and each and everytime i have purchased i have made a hopefully significant donation to the forum for the pleasure.

Alan is fantastic to deal with and keeps you updated throughout the delivery process, he normally knows my parcel has failed to deliver before i do.  Prices are very very fair and everything comes well packaged and always immaculate.

I am no relation to Alan other then a very satisfied customer of his and he normally gets a request for items just to see if he has anything available for me.

I'm very glad it's mostly blue grey as I cant sell another kidney  :D

I will be in touch tomorrow Alan once I've collected a very big parcel. The forum coffers will swell tomorrow I'm sure  :beers:

locos :
this will just be a list of individual items, not a job lot, so pick and mix.

carriages :
these will most likely be listed as rakes, but always open to offers for individual items.

payment will be preferred by paypal, but any other form of beer tokens would be acceptable

I will probably list more than I want to sell in all, but this may allow some locos to go, and me retain others to fill my roster once my minimum numbers achieved.

Craig has given me a glowing reference, which I am very grateful for, but hopefully any other members will be equally happy with their purchases.

I am in the process of checking all locos on the test track, and if anyone wants photos when listed, just PM me.

planning revisions for Inverknockie mk.5 continue, and may result in further additions to the list.

BACS is immeasurably less secure than PayPal, obviously from Alan's perspective it probably doesn't matter, but as a buyer PayPal makes far more sense.

can understand what your saying - some of us are not that savvy. and i am not going into banking on this forum. i have methods i prefer and can pm once we know what is on offer. thank you alan for posting in the first place

of course, if any buyer preferred to make the donation to the forum as part of the total that would be ok by me, I would then simply make the donation with a reference to the buyer and item so Tank knew where / who / why it was from.

I find paypal easiest, but it would be up to any buyer as to his/her preferred payment method.

Just to preserve peace and keep things confidential I suggest any negotiations, payments, methods thereof etc are made between parties by PM only. It may sound like teaching dear gran to suck eggs but some have been known to put personal details on the open forum. (Not some grans )

while test running, listing and heart wrenching decisions continue on the Farish 37 and 47 front,
I have identified three Dapol locos which are definitely cleared for disposal, so to start the ball rolling ...

Dapol class 22 BR blue with full yellow ends - unboxed - #1 - £80 incl p&p and a £5 donation to forum.
Dapol class 22 BR blue with full yellow ends - unboxed - #2 - £80 incl p&p and a £5 donation to forum.
Dapol class 22 BR blue with full yellow ends - unboxed - #3 - £80 incl p&p and a £5 donation to forum.

this link to Hattons shows the DCC fitted version, these are not fitted.
https://www.hattons.co.uk/74798/dapol_2d_012_014d_class_22_diesel_locomotive_d6315_in_br_blue_pre_tops_font_numbering_dcc_fitted/stockdetail.aspx (https://www.hattons.co.uk/74798/dapol_2d_012_014d_class_22_diesel_locomotive_d6315_in_br_blue_pre_tops_font_numbering_dcc_fitted/stockdetail.aspx)

please note that after some comment re methods of payments, I've decided to include the forum donation in the asking price, and this will then be passed on with a note of the buyer and item. this may make life easier for those not using paypal.

hopefully I will have the loco listing ready sometime tomorrow.

any interest in the class 22s please PM me.

yes, but would need to check postage charges, and charge at cost, which might knock the price up a bit.
not shipped overseas before.

many thanks for the link.

assuming the loco weighs 200 grams, as per hattons site, and adding another 100 grams for packing, looks like would be £15.80 recorded.

was looking at one class 22 to the States as per previous query by LA Steve.

for UK I used 2nd class recorded, and you can get a lot shipped for £4 in my experience.

obviously, the overseas price rockets, presumably as going by air.

Just a suggestion, but just delete sold items, strikethrough makes it messy IMO.

Also there's a £1 listing offer on eBay until tomorrow if you do decide to shift things that way.

Presume you've no NSE mk2s?

please note, listing for coaching stock will hopefully be up, SWMBO permitting, by wednesday.

supply of boxes for posting ordered today, should be here by then, so should be able to start posting completed orders by weekend.

I would of course prefer to despatch as single orders with multiple items, allowing me to pass on reduced postage savings to buyers, but if items wanted to be sent as paid for in multiple parcels this can be done.

any problems with carriage rakes being listed in this format ...

item 23 - rake of blue/grey mk.1 carriages - blue riband - comprising BSK - SO - SK - SK - RMB - SK - BCK
or should I list carriage numbers as well ?

obviously manufacturer, cost, including forum donation, etc would be included.

the query was whether people would be happy with the format of listing the rake, or if they would prefer the stock of a rake listed individually.

the importance of number can always be discussed by PM, and if necessary the vehicles in rakes swapped around.

as a guide, I'll be looking at £15 per carriage plus a £2.50 forum donation, though of course purchase of a rake would reduce the postage, and this would be reflected in the final price.

working through the coaching stock, I have found this rake of maroon Farish mk.1s, all complete with all buffers and couplings

SLF   mk.1 sleeper first - maroon - M2002
SLSTP   mk.1 sleeper second - maroon - M2365
SLSTP   mk.1 sleeper second - maroon M2365
RU   mk.1 restaurant unclassified - maroon - W1917
FO   mk.1 first open - maroon - M3140
SO   mk.1 standard open - maroon - E3580
SO   mk.1 standard open - maroon - E3580
BSK   mk.1 brake standard corridor - maroon - appears to have no fleet number on it but has not been modified since received  :confused1:

ideally would prefer to sell as a rake - 8 x carriages at 8 x £15 = £120, 8 x forum donations of £2.50 = £20 plus p&p of £4.00 total £144

anyone interested please PM me.

the listing of blue/grey rakes continues  :'(

you may well be right, just looked at Hattons, and they had a pre-owned mk.1, the old printed side one, at £15, but I am sure all of mine are the later versions with handrails etc.
let's be honest, it's down to individuals to decide if they are willing to pay a price, wherever it is. If an item doesn't sell here, then I'll either keep it on roster, or list it on ebay.
just searched there for 'graham farish mk.1 carriage' and the first two listings were BIN with free postage at £25.99.

no one has to buy any of my items, if they do then both I and the forum benefit, if they don't then I've lost nothing but some time, and the forum is the sole loser.

ideally would prefer to sell as a rake - 8 x carriages at 8 x £15 = £90, 8 x forum donations of £2.50 = £20 plus p&p of £4.00 total £114

thats a bargain if maths is right.

8 x 15 is £120 .

must go stand in the corner  :-[

so should read then
8 x carriages at 8 x £15 = £120, 8 x forum donations of £2.50 = £20 plus p&p of £4.00 total £144

while test running, listing and heart wrenching decisions continue on the Farish 37 and 47 front,
I have identified three Dapol locos which are definitely cleared for disposal, so to start the ball rolling ...

Dapol class 22 BR blue with full yellow ends - unboxed - #1 - £80 incl p&p and a £5 donation to forum.
Dapol class 22 BR blue with full yellow ends - unboxed - #2 - £80 incl p&p and a £5 donation to forum.
Dapol class 22 BR blue with full yellow ends - unboxed - #3 - £80 incl p&p and a £5 donation to forum.

this link to Hattons shows the DCC fitted version, these are not fitted.
https://www.hattons.co.uk/74798/dapol_2d_012_014d_class_22_diesel_locomotive_d6315_in_br_blue_pre_tops_font_numbering_dcc_fitted/stockdetail.aspx (https://www.hattons.co.uk/74798/dapol_2d_012_014d_class_22_diesel_locomotive_d6315_in_br_blue_pre_tops_font_numbering_dcc_fitted/stockdetail.aspx)

please note that after some comment re methods of payments, I've decided to include the forum donation in the asking price, and this will then be passed on with a note of the buyer and item. this may make life easier for those not using paypal.

hopefully I will have the loco listing ready sometime tomorrow.

any interest in the class 22s please PM me.

no interest in these shown, so withdrawing from disposals list.

due in part to
1. SWMBO being ill this week,
2. my totally underestimating how much would be involved in the coaching stock listing  :-[

I have already received several queries re coaching stock, so I have decided that it may well be easier all round if anyone looking for stock PMs me with their requirements, and I will check my rakes to see if I can supply.

mk.1 stock will be blue / grey - BSK / BCK / SK / CK / FK / SO / RMB / SLF / SLEP / TPO etc
GUVs and CCTs BR blue or Red Star [CCT]
mk.3 stock is mostly Dapol, with Farish sleepers, again all blue / grey, with some ScotRail mk.3s.

listing rakes may well not offer the 'tailored' requirement people have, so a request of 'have you got mk.1 BSK + SK + SK + RMB + CK + BG'  may be a better way to go.
if requesting stock, can you please say if you are looking for different numbers, or if you are happy to take multiples of numbers.

pricing - looking for £2.50 forum donation per carriage, £16 per carriage, plus £4 per order UK recorded 2nd class Royal Mail.

and, once again, STOCK IS STORED IN JB MODELS FOAM TRAYS, AND IS NOT BOXED.

thanks - final question . if not boxed and in foam trays, how secure will packaging be please as concerns with royal mail processing / handling - will items be in a box you can but at the post office, wrapping. thanks

will items be sent signed for / recorded ?
Title: Re: disposal of surplus items
Post by: guest311 on August 14, 2019, 03:50:43 PM
as per previous posts, will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd class recorded delivery.

still awaiting the arrival of the boxes, but each item will be individually wrapped in bubble wrap, then the box filled to ensure no room for movement.

of course, if near sussex you could collect !

where a member orders a number of items, I may pack in surplus JB trays IF THIS IS A BETTER OPTION for protection.

again, AS PER PREVIOUS POSTS,

all locos have been tested, before packing will again be tested, and results sent to buyer before despatch.

I note that you have NOT shown any interest in any items so for.

lastly, who is the WE in "we have had lots of queries / thoughts" ?

if any prospective buyer has a question, they would be better off directing it to me, not sure how you have got involved in this process.

apologies, but boxes which were estimated to arrive friday didn't, or saturday, or yesterday, and postie has been today and no sign of them.
supposedly despatched last week, so don't know where they've got to.
if not delivered tomorrow, I'll go up the town and get sufficient / suitable sized boxes to send purchased locos and carriages.

apologies

alan

UPDATE :
I have messaged seller, but so far no response, so I have placed an order with another supplier for boxes, who is quoting thurs / fri delivery.
so, one way or another all purchases so far should be in the hands of Royal Mail by next monday at the latest.

no response from seller to e-bay message re non arrival

will be packing sold items this evening once grandsons have left, hopefully post office tomorrow.

as previously, buyers will be advised of despatch with tracking reference.

awaiting delivery today of 2nd order of smaller boxes, so will now be posting monday.

I have had 'interest' from several members re either locos [ can I have pics please] or rolling stock, but have then heard nothing else.

have pm'd re these, as my preference now is to post all in one go, and I have had one reply.
so, tomorrow/sunday all outstanding PAID FOR orders will be packed in appropriate sized boxes, and posted monday WITHOUT FAIL.

any 'interests' in stock or locos that have not replied by then will be taken as not now interested.

I will then list types of rolling stock still available, anyone interested can then let me know their requirements, and any further sales will be packed and posted, and I will then re-organise my stock to fulfill my timetable, make any further donations to the forum, and ask the mods to lock the thread.

thank you all for your interest, I have profited, the forum has profited, and I hope that those who have bought will also feel that they have profited.

just had the guy from parcel force at the door with my latest order of JB foam trays, blue boxes and stacking racks.

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS GUY'S PRODUCTS TOO HIGHLY ?

been using them for years, both for railway and wargames units.

so if you order his foam trays in blue boxes, you get ...
the foam tray [different styles available]
an A4 size foam sheet
and the blue box.

you can also order the stacking frame for these, each frame takes x5 trays.

so, what is so great ........?

firstly, great quality
secondly, fast despatch
thirdly, I can use the boxes and foam sheets to store my 20mm wargames units in the racks, while storing railway locos and stock in the foam trays in boxes scored from Tescos

SWMBO hasn't yet realised that the foam trays can be stacked in these boxes, so she is still thinking 50% of my loco strength  >:D

also, when he packs an order you get piles of spare foam as packing, which will explain to those who receive parcels next week why there is so much foam, and not bubble wrap.

a win all around.

at £5 for a foam tray, and £10 for a foam tray in a blue box, who can complain ?

with all parcels despatched, one on it's way to the USA, five delivered, with two acknowledged, and two awaiting redelivery, I think its time to look at closing this thread, pay any extra donations, and take a break.

so if anyone is interested in any mk.1s, mk.3 SLEPS, GUVs, CCTs, TPOs etc, please let me know.

otherwise I will reorganise my remaining stock into new rakes, and allocate them to the timetable.

class 22s received no interest, and so I may reinstate the plan to convert / renumber to class 29s.

the mk.1 maroon set also received no interest, so I may retain this for a steam special, which means a review of the kettles that were due to be listed.

class 37s and 47s did not generate the expected interest, so they will, if no serious interest noted, be returned to the roster.

lastly, my rule 1 blue pullman set, which was under consideration for disposal, will be retained for now due to the general lack of interest in other items.

will any of the members who noted interest in carriages and or locos, and have then not got back to me, please either confirm or not their interest in the items.
I know one of you has not been on the forum since the 22nd, and so has not had a chance to respond, but others have been, and a quick PM with 'yes I want them' or 'no I've changed my mind' would let me know where I stand with stock to set into my new timetable.

thank you.

having checked all outstanding 'interests' and found that all have been on the forum, with only one having the courtesy to contact me and advise he has changed his mind, I assume the others also now have no interest in the items they PMed about.

so, can the MODs please lock this thread, and I'll assume no further interest in any locos or carriages.

Tank, I'll sort out any outstanding donations to the forum.
