Good album. I too bought it at the time. Jon Lord is one of my top 3 keyboardists of all time.

Oooh....who are the other two?
I'd go for Rod Argent and Rick Wakeman.
All time top is Keith Emerson, a joint second Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman.
Although Goldy McJohn was also good in his day.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

I reckon Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Rick Wright/Tony Banks vying for that 3rd place

Have now gone onto Cricklewood Green - Ten Years After

Deep Purple in Rock was my first Purple album, that was the days of the bands best line up. Made in Japan was a classic live album.

Much listened to at school back in 1974 was a tape of Purple Mk 3 on Radio 1s 'In Concert' program, actually available to buy/stream these days as Deep Purple Live in London.

After introducing the rest of the band and doing his Tommy Cooper impressions, the late Mr Lord introduced himself as Rick Emerson ;D

Just recently I came across this Aussie cover band and very good they are too. They are made up of two main guys, the bass player, Con and a vocalist and key board player Darren and feature different vocalists and guitar players etc all who are very good. Here is a sample of their repotoir....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN8GoQeps74&feature=share

The guitarist on this one is just a bit good too.......

By the way "Machine Head" was one of my fav Deep Purple albums plus my son took me too see them on their final tour about two years ago. On the tour with them was Europe, they were pretty good too, only known for one song though.

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

Some rather old Strawbs (A choice selection of Strawbs) and Uriah Heep (Demons and Wizards) but, then again, I am rather old.

Which is nice :)
