OK, chaps, what am I doing wrong?
I've just tried bulk uploading about a dozen photos from the NGSE show and it chugged away apparently all working nicely. When it had finished, there was only one in the gallery! All the photos are jpegs, between 1 and 5Mb, but only the smallest file is there.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Chris
I think it's been mentioned somewhere that the upper limit is 2Mb?
I don't think there has been an 'official' ruling but I don't have any issues when I've scaled my pics down to just under 2mB using 'Paint' to resize them
If you upload a single picture it says the max file size is 7Mb. Is that out of date info now?

I think that's well out of date info, Chris

Hello, it's me, Hopeless of Haywards Heath again...
I have good news and not so good news. I have shrunk the files using MS office and they have all uploaded now. However, some are upside-down or sideways. They are all the correct orientation on my 'pooter. Yes I know the theory of correcting this - I clicked on 'edit' and changed the orientation to 180, clicked 'edit picture' and........... zippo. Still exactly the same. :headbutt:
What do I do now? I'd really like to share the NGSE photos before everyone has forgotten about it.
As an aside,

Could somebody correct this so that others don't fall into the same trap?
Many thanks.

Mate this is a moot point with me. I haven't posted pics for months because of all the faffing around. I'm currently trying an online optimiser program to see if that works (latest hurried results suggest it doesn't), and NewportNobby uses Paint to resize. I didn't know if that resides on my computer or not but apparently it does.
At the risk of incurring managerial wrath, this is an ongoing issue which really needs addressing urgently, I feel.
I agree.
I've been trying to upload a 4MB jpg file. The error message sales not a valid photo file!
Anything under 2M works fine.
Regards,
John P
After much experimenting today, I have finally managed to upload not just one, but a bulk upload to my galleries. I used an online optimiser (which I was put onto by a forum member some years ago, if I recall) to optimise a file of pics (I assume it somehow compresses it and reduces it's memory footprint).
This means I can at last start posting pictures again, but it's still a lot of mucking around. One thousand pics took around 45 mins to optimise. Ok, I can be doing other things, but I still think you shouldn't have to do that.
It also conflicts with the way I often work - that is on my phone. I can't do all that optimising stuff on my phone - or if it is possible, it's yet another process to go through.
In times past, if I saw something interesting while I was on my travels, I would be able to photograph it, and upload to the forum straight away from my phone. This I cannot do anymore.
Sorry, bus stop fans :D
Right, chaps, I've cracked it.
This, as far as I can tell, is the procedure for bulk uploading photos:
1. Use a program like Paint or Office, or an optimiser, to reduce file sizes to <2Mb.
2. Bulk upload them to the gallery.
3. Note which ones are the incorrect orientation and delete them - one by one. It appears you can't edit the orientation after they have been uploaded.
4. Upload them again, this time one at a time, and edit the orientation before you hit 'Add picture'.
I agree with @Bealman (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=255) in his first reply - this lets the Forum down. If it is this difficult to upload photos it is going to put people off doing it. Sorry to bother you, @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) but are improvements planned?
Cheers,
Chris
This probably still applies, as it was only a few weeks ago:

Thanks for that - I hadn't seen that post.
At least the problem is known about. I shall await developments!
Cheers,
Chris

A few photos ( Imac using Preview to do bulk resizing). if you cut the image size to 1Mb 500k, you can bulk upload 10 at once.- I uploaded 18 in 2 bulk uploads!
it helps to have 2 screens (27" & 22"!!) to work with
For me, what I do is:
- Take photos on my iPhone, which I guess is producing High-Res (>2meg) images,
- import them to my PC.
- I then double click them in Windows (would be same in the Mac) to boot up the photo viewer,
- then (in Windows) choose "Edit and Create" to crop them down a bit (lop about 20-30% off, especially make them landscape in orientation not portrait),
- then save, so the new cropped file is in my Photos on the PC
- then copy them to the NGF gallery and they load OK.
Please may I respectfully ask for some new instructions on posting photos to be put onto NGF, (or update the current locked instructions) to include all the tips and tricks that work around optimising, from member's previous posts?
As I'm compiling my Japanese adventure at the moment, I'm constantly reminded that when I was there, I was taking the odd pic and posting it straight to the mods real-time from my phone.
This is impossible to do in the current situation.
