Hi to All,
During Easter I was in Aberdeen to visit my son, student at University of Aberdeen.Scotland fascinated me totally.Unforgettable moments at the stations in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.HST,Caledonian Sleeper, all these East Coast Line trains, which I saw for the first time in my life.Pity that it was only a week.I am already planning my next trip to Scotland. As soon as possible.By the way - I envy you for so large number of magazins about railways.
with best wishes from Cracow

Sounds like a cool trip! I'm a big fan of the ECML too, having grown up next to it. However, like yourself, I'm quite a long way from it these days!
Hope you took a load back with you. :laugh3: Can you not get them sent to you on any you would like to read.
Jealous of anyone who lives in or visits Scotland. Wife and I were there for 4 days in 09 and it's my favorite overseas trip to date.
Sounds like you had a great time.
Roman you are lucky to live in Cracow.
It's a beautiful city.
Best regards,
Joe
City is beautiful, worse is the air even in my place 10 miles from centre. It was only in Aberdeen that I got rid of the remnants.I miss Scottish air.
If you get the chance I'd thoroughly recommend a train ride North from Inverness to Wick/Thurso and West to Kyle of Lochalsh,
Thank you for the suggestion about this tour. I would like to go from Inverness to Edinburgh HST, even if it does not expand there at its maximum speed.
I love the west highlands once away from Glasgow up towards mallaig
Including the route to Fort William?

Thanks a lot to all of you.But I have next question - as a books lover - could you tell me if there are any other books about modelling Scottish Railways except Ian Futers works?
mainly in libraries in England, I have a few odd photos, but there would be the issue of postage costs
but I would google railway book sellers in the uk and email them for what they could offer.

Anything in particular you are thinking of Roman, there are many short run books on smaller local lines available, if you give me some ideas I'll keep an eye out for some for you.

your very wecome
im happy to show you round parts of the north west of England roman, my old stomping ground and take a trip over the sceney of the cumbrian fells to the Scottish lowlands, into Glasgow /edinburgh
Oh my, I lived in Aberdeen for 4 years and it was just an awful part of the country (I am from the entral belt). I moved away north od Aberdeen and won't go back unless it's under duress these days. I'm impressed you like Aberdeen -but it will blow your mind if you can get visiting elsewhere, Aberdeen is not a particularly nice part of Scotland for me, particulary with the oil downturn. You should come-up Inverness way, or venture south down to the central belt.
I drive past Kyle to Skye often enough -I did the train trip recently and I thought it was over-rated but scot-rail didn't help much, much better-off doing it by car IMO.
I'm quite happy trekking folk round also. I did 1,200miles last autumn up round John O'Groats etc and back to Inverness. We did 300 miles across Applecross on the west coast a couple of weeks ago -but in my brothers Hilux which a 4x4 is right for that road. I did some 300 miles round the central belt and Loch Katrine (Sir Walter Scott steamship last weekend). Just the Clyde estuary and south / border I'm not so sure about these days. I wouldn't take a visitor to the UK near Aberdeen unless they wanted. Best thing if you're staying in Aberdeen is to get out!
Oi I have two nieces who live in Aberdeen..... and I've spent a few days there..
But yes there are many nicer places Like Inverness or anywhere out in the countryside, to and including the Hebridies.
I used to go to School on the Kyle line, the only thing good about going to school!!
The Central belt, I find is not so Nice, too many towns and cities. The only thing good about them is visitling historic buildings, monuments and Museums.
Oh and the Scottish Railway Preservation Society at Bo'ness.
hope your reading went well

Best Greetings
Roman
Glad you're enjoying yourself, Roman
And today Subway in Glasgow. In my opinion it is a kind of "pocket" metro linę but
very nice indeed.

Glad you enjoyed it, Roman.
I am fortunate to have known it in its old 'Shoogle' days before it became the 'Clockwork Orange'.
Sometimes I have to go through to Glasgow on business and I always try to take the opportunity to have a hurl on it.
Best wishes.
John
If you are still in Glasgow, do try and get along to 'Pastimes' to see their stock of used models etc. well worth a browse, and likely you get another shot on the clockwork orange to deliver you to St George's Cross Station:

I'm back in Poland now but I'm already planning my next trip. This time between Christmas and the New Year.
I think Scottish Railways in winter scenery look also great.I visited the Wildcat Models in Glasgow, but the class 55 from Graham Farish was bought at Hattons Model Railways(by the Internet).I hope that Christmas class 92 in the Caledonian Sleeper livery(Revolutions Trains) will be available.Similarly like HST in ECML livery from Dapol.
best Greeting to all
Roman
Very good Roman. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
Wildcat models is not a place I have been, but I do go to Partick station reasonably frequently, so should be able to get along myself sometime soon.
