Title: please explain
Post by: lil chris on January 14, 2021, 05:38:23 PM
Can somebody explain how when I log in on the site and go to Layout construction one of the layouts is highlighted in a orange type colour, is there a way to change this.

If I understand correctly those have been 'pinned' so no, you can't change them.

Thanks for the reply John, not sure what pinned means, I had mistakenly clicked on ignore for this topic. Is it something to do with that, you learn something everyday even at my age.

I'm assuming you mean "Moreton Hinmarch"?

No, @Trainfish (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=262) , this particular one is not 'pinned'. Why it is in orange is a little bit of a mystery, at a guess I'd say it may be in orange as it has significantly more views than any other layout, so it may be an indicator of it's popularity/longevity.

@lil chris (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1784), coming back to the 'pinned' comment. A thread can be 'pinned' which means it will always remain at the top of the particular board. It can be identified by the pushpin/drawing pin icon on the left-hand side of the title.

The style classes for the orange row all seem to be named with "approve" prefix, so does something need approving related to that thread?

Thanks guys, You were spot on @emjaybee (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=5604) yes it was Laurence's layout Marton Hinmarch which I do frequent a lot. Some of what you say is behond me but never mind, just logged on now and it is no longer orange. I am into computers but the hardware side not so much software, I should have read more.
While posting this its changed to orange again, must be because of a new reply!

Well its not been moved to the top so I take it its not pinned but I can not find the pushpin drawing icon. there is a icon on the far right which when I click takes me to the last post, there are two icons on the far left but hovering my mouse over them does nothing. It is no big deal but I just wondered why it is happening.

@lil chris (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1784) no mate, that thread isn't pinned.

If you have a look at the Welcome and Introduction board here...

https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?board=40.0 (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?board=40.0)

You can see about a half dozen threads with the pushpin icon on the left-hand side.

I can't even work out which thread I went to but when I did there were definitely 2 posts which were both orange and both pinned. Couldn't have been the Layout construction one though. I'll go back into hibernation now

Thanks emjaybee and John for your input, a bit wiser myself now too.

Me too. It looks like I went to unread posts and 2 were orange and pinned. I did think it strange they weren't at the top but I'm having a bit of a brainless day as you will soon see on my thread

Unread posts will always be chronological, pinned posts won't sit at the top of unread lists.

I agree that Moreton Hinmarch was highlighted orange if you go to the layout sub-forum, but didn't appear to have any particular reason for it. It's certainly not pinned.

Like This??

Not noticed it before, but same thread others have named, not one I'm following or posted in; not pinned; nothing obviously different...

edit: on clicking "Mark Read" the colour difference disappears...

Yes that's it, not just my computer then. Must be Laurence who has a secret to highlite his thread.

I've noticed exactly the same thing, Chris.  It appeared to start a few days ago.

Best wishes.

It looks like there was a post in the thread that needed approval.  There are a few members on the forum who need their posts approved before they appear to everyone.  I hadn't realised (or remembered!) that it also changed the colour of the thread for everyone else as well.  It should be normal now.  :)

Behold, a voice from the Gods, and the fog clears!

And there we have it.

Wouldn't have guessed that in a million years.

I saw the "Please Explain" heading and got all excited. I thought someone had been issued with a "Form 1".

Only big railway people will understand. :D

The Aussie members will immediately think of Pauline Hanson. I know I did!

But as GrahamB says above, only certain people will understand.

Same here I started this thread and no idea what you are talking about. Any way thanks Tank for explaining the reason for the colour change whatever colour it was, I bet Laurence the owner of the topic has no idea about all this, lol.

Teehee,
On the big railway, if you have cocked up or may have cocked up you would get a "Form 1", otherwise called a "Please explain".

One example would be a SPAD.

Pauline Hanson is an ex-fish & chip shop owner who is now a radical sometimes politician.

Signal Passed at Danger
To be strictly accurate, Signal Passed at Danger without authority.

Trains are authorised to pass signals at danger for a number of reasons due to equipment failure, train failure, obstructions or during engineering works (Possessions, also known as T3's).

And to add further accuracy, Pauline Hanson has done gaol time in Australia,  started the Australia Party, and basically has been a bit of a celebrity here, sometimes for the wrong reasons.

I'm sure interested folk around the world would find something on Google.

I'll leave it at that  ;)

No politics in a model railway forum.
