dcc & isolation

if i go down the route of dcc will i still need to use isolation plates on the points of multiple loops or can i just have the track live all the time

You will need insulating joiners on all point frogs and double irj's on any reverse loop at least, the same as for DC.  You will also need to add power feeds (droppers) to all the sections of track which become isolated so that all your track is powered at all times, that is what makes DCC so useful as things like lights stay on etc.
