I had a request a while back about making a system on here where people can 'Like' a post, just like on Facebook.  The idea of this is so you don't have to reply directly, but can simply find the post 'Good'.

So, Up Arrow means Good, Down Arrow means bad.  If a post gets to -5 Bad clicks, then it will either turn the post grey or it will be hidden from your view.  This will depend on the options chosen in your account.  You can alter this in your profile.

Anyway, after a lot of effort today, and a HUGE headache, I've managed to put something together on here.  We'll see how it goes.  Play nicely!   ;D  And let me know of any feedback.

Tank.

You could allways put a thanks button on the forum, that way the person giving out the information will feel appreciated.

A thanks button?  What would it do? ???  Send them a PM, or do you mean like this:- :NGF: But saying thanks?

Geoff

Hi there tank, most of the time folks read a thread and do not post on the forum but the thanks button would give them the chance to thank the member for the advice, I know its allways good to post a thankyou.

We have a thanks button on our caravanning forum if you check that out you will see what I mean.

Sadly I have to sign up to view the posts.  If you have it in your heart to take a ScreenShot I'd be grateful.  Otherwise I'll sign up tomorrow.  I appreciate the suggestion though.

Thats a good idea Chris,

I like this idea as then if someone helps me out with a problem or provides good news or a good review on a piece of rolling stock. I can then rate their posts positively and I hope that fellow members would kindly do the same if my reviews prove to be useful and informative ;). Its kind of similar to the comment voting as used on YouTube.

Nice idea!.

If you say "pls" because its shorter than "please", I will say "no" because its shorter than "yes" :P.

Not trying to be a party pooper here but I have been on forums where there is a thanks button and it records the amount of thanks a person gets beside his/her personal details and user name, in theory this is fine but I have my reservations.

A perfect example of this is the largest N Scale forum in the USA, a wonderful forum with lots of great information and membership but it is a nightmare to negotiate and IMO totally overdone.

I believe the best forums are the ones that are easy to negotiate and its the content of the messages that count, also would we have people take offence to five thumbs down, I think that would be enough to make some people think "what's the point of posting here nobody cares what I think anyway", they will leave the forum and the forum may be left with an elitist group of people.

I think these forums are for everyone with the same interest and as with Photography forums we are here to help beginners and experienced alike, I like the use of the thumb but only when it is used in the right context, example I just bought a new loco  or I got a loco on eBay and it doesn't work  but not as a way of judging a thread.

Sorry but after being a member of Railway and Photography forums for over 15 years I think I have seen it all, that's just my two bobs worth though.

PS
I would like to add that IMO this is the best model railway forum I have been a member of and look forward to my browse around the threads every morning before breaky and SWMBO is still snoozing.

Quick reply...  I kind of agree.  It was a lot of work to install it, but I'm not convinced it's that good, and it's not being used that much. :-\   I'll consider ditching it.

It's gone.

Spell checkers....  You should be able to get them as 'add ons' with your browser.  I use Firefox at home and I have an 'add on' that underlines any spelling errors.  Sadly, my work computer doesn't have that function. ::) :)
