However previewing embedding a YouTube videos by pasting a YouTube link and clicking preview on a post will show the video preview.
Actually posting will only show an excessively spaced link to open YouTube
Can we not use the [youtube] tag as in other Bb forums?

The "trick" is to find the short "youtu.be" link and remove the "s" from "https":

Though yes, a [youtube] tag would make life easier...
It's a pain, especially in the "What are you listening to.......?" thread that all you see now is the link rather than a thumbnail of the vid.
Can the 'old way' be salvaged or is there something we can do to get it back to how it was?
We used to have it working fine, but Youtube changed the way their links worked about a year ago. Video's were embedded into the forum right away, and at the time I was told that there wasn't a workaround. I'm sure that there must be by now! I'll ask.
AFAIK youtube recently closed the only remaining open door to directly embedding and displaying a video as they want viewers to visit their site so they can earn money with the adverts they show there. There is an "embed" option but requires the use of iframes which themselves bring inherent dangers and are, I think, disabled on the forum.
Two examples I have found

The second option stopped working recently, it is what I advocated when youtube started the https thing, don't know about the first one, but could be the same idea but done automatically. Will let Tank know. @Tank (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2)
I tried the first option using the text as shown and as you can see it works.
That is fine for You Tube, but there are now so many different media players
I have recently had to sign up to Vimeo and as you can see the code is simply just a number
It is a shame a single code cannot be used
Content removed under the Data Protection Act
She had loads of videos they had taken for each product, but they had never been used
There's always someone who wants more.... ::) ;D
This will do for now, as it's the most popular.
Thank you so much for your help!!
I embedded my videos.
Despite of my video contents my thread looking fancy now. (I think):heart2:
Thank you again!!

@mjkerr (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=208) Unfortunately vimeo requires reverse lookups which is what was slowing down the forum previously... If you want to show a video here and embed it then please upload it to You Tube.
Exactly, it is part of the copyright control process and why many people swapped from You Tube to Vimeo
Some of my content I have no choice but to upload it to Vimeo, that way it cannot be embedded (unless permission is given) or copied
Does the new YouTube button deserve an announcement on the NGF front page?
Or a locked topic ?

Sticky topic
However, may as well add all these emojis then!
I have never used one
