Two browsers open?

Here's a question for you computer experts.
Is it possible to have two different web pages open at the same time, say one on the left side of the screen, and one on the right?  I'm using Firefox, if that makes a difference.

Yep, just drag the first tab away from the browser header bar to somewhere else and it becomes a separate instance which you can arrange however you want.

Best if you have a decent wide screen monitor and desktop otherwise things get a bit cramped on some sites

With modern versions of windows if you right click on the task bar at the bottom there's an option "Show windows side by side" which will arrange things for you.

If you want to be completely certain that there's no interaction between the two pages, you could also use two separate browsers, say Firefox and Chrome.

A private window in Firefox will not pick up any other active logins you might have as well - for instance, if you wanted to login to the forum using two different indentities )I can't imagine why!) - you can do this with private windows. If you won't use private mode, any active login is automatically picked up when you open your second window. Come to think of it, you might want to do that sort of thing with Ebay.

Thanks for your help guys.

Found another way too.  Right click the open tab, dropdown gives the option to "duplicate tab", click that and open a new web page on that.  Then on both webpages click "restore down", then position each page side by side. Works for me

If you're interested why I asked, I was watching a YouTube video of a train journey for Hull to Manchester and was trying to follow the journey on Google maps, but was annoyed by the fact I couldn't do it at the same time.
Boring I know, but it keeps me happy.

Thanks again.
Cheers, Trev.

If you want something to open in its own window rather than the current one or a new tab, righ-clicking it and selecting open in a new window from the context menu works in most browsers.

I find it useful to have the Forum open on two tabs when composing a post with pictures, as I can consult the gallery without losing the post part way through!
Perhaps the proof that there is intelligent life in outer space is that they haven't contacted us.
