Just for info, I've cut & pasted the server response times for various pages I've visited between 17:00-17:10 GMT today.
Page created in 41.991 seconds with 30 queries.
Page created in 15.808 seconds with 24 queries.
Page created in 30.613 seconds with 22 queries.
Page created in 13.064 seconds with 24 queries.
Page created in 18.78 seconds with 41 queries.
Page created in 35.702 seconds with 22 queries.
Page created in 13.361 seconds with 23 queries.
These are all the second line up from the bottom of the page, and as I understand it, the time is how long it took the server to build the page, and has nothing to do with network latency between my computer and the server.
Is this correct? If so, it's showing some serious service degradation.
It has been noticeably slow response today
And there was me blaming myself this morning on the basis if I even think "I have a spare hour so I'll hop on the forum" it slows so much I get naff all accomplished
7.47am Tues here in Australia, and the forum is belting along ???
I knew there was a reason the aussies dealt so forcefully with covid,
now we know why
they get fast forum, we get ... errr... a bit slower forum. :smiley-laughing:
It's been exceedingly slow for me for several days now.
We've just upgraded from a 2 Mbps link to a 60+ Mbps link ... but this site is still glacially slow and regularly timing out on me
Hi all,
It seems fine for me at the moment, but I know it has times where it is painfully slow. We'll work on some maintenance soon to see if that helps. Annoyingly, it's the way that the forum is set up that's slowing it all down at times, and not the actual server. I'm waiting on an upgrade to come out to hopefully change things - which will also have its own problems, as upgrades often do!
Thanks,
Chris/Tank.
better a slow forum than no forum
Seems fine here in Devizes
I think the whole interweb is a bit slow at the moment due to all those pesky kids working from home. Now if only Boris would send them back to skool. Oh

Not wanting to get political, but ... did anyone notice how, when it was announced that it was safe to send the kids back to school because even if they do get it they only tend to suffer mild symptoms, nobody seems to have given any thought to prioritise us teachers in the 50 - 60 age group, who will have to mix with them, for OUR jabs??
But isn't that age group being jabbed at the moment anyway? I'm 56 (I know, I only look 26) and was jabbed today
Well, they've not worked their way down to us 53 year olds yet ... or if they HAVE, no one's bothered telling ME about it ...
Maybe you're not fat enough as that's how I think I got in :laugh3:
Joking aside though they reckon Wiltshire is way ahead of most in the UK.
Anyway, back on topic, the forum seems to be flying along now. Maybe all the kids have gone out to play football on the street corner, kerbies etc, just like we used to do
Can somebody feed the hamster, or remove the treacle that is clogging up the lines, forum is running very slow again.
It seems to be better now. I think they were training a new hamster.
Whoops! Spoke too soon. :(
Noticed it's been struggling a bit the last two or three days.
Pretty slow here today.
Yes, I've had a number of 20 second waits over the last few days.
As Anton du Beke would say "Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow"
(But mainly slow)
Checking it out now. Sorry!
Just had 32, 54, 38, 71 second query times while browsing the Real Railway Discussion section, from approx 11:00-11:04.
We need some more money in the meter - the forum, for the last 15/20 minutes, has been that slow it is almost going backwards! I have just tried searching for a topic and eventually got this message -
Due to high stress on the server, the search function has been automatically and temporarily disabled. Please try again in a short while.

Handily there is a donation pot top right of the forum page where we can all pop some money in the meter ;)
It is slow and the time from clicking NEW on a post for the page to load is slow but once loaded is okay scrolling that page, then repeat for next page. It may be the interweb connection at the server rather than specifically the server but either will still cause an issue either way.
Yes, happening here in Australia, too.
Strangely it's quite decent speed for me this morning
Maybe it's me being full of pizza and beer in Mollymook golf club ;D
It was very slow 2o minutes ago but not at all bad now.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there is some diagnostic information, including a line like this:
Page created in 4.842 seconds with 23 queries.
Those times in seconds that I've just reported are from that diagnostic info. It is the length of time that the server takes to satisfy the queries required to build the page
before it's transmitted, and implies that the server is being overloaded.
Now showing........Page created in 0.421 seconds with 50 queries.
Ah yes now 0.35 but sometimes 3.5... overall seems to be more 0.3 now though :)
I expect the veering between 3.5 and 0.35 is down to all the online members now refreshing pages like mad to see how it's going :smiley-laughing:
Yeah.... I'm going psycho looking at that little line at the bottom! :laugh3:
Oh, and that took forever to post, by the way.
Yeah but you're about 27 million miles away and eating pizza. It makes a difference you know.
It's a bit annoying that it keeps doing it, and it's not constant either. :hmmm:

Yeah, well it's Sunday morning here now, and it's chugging along really slowly, especially when I make a reply such as this one.

I suspect that 190 guests won't be helping - probably, I suspect, mostly bots from Google, etc. at this time of morning making multiple connections to find and add pages to their search databases.
I'm ready to believe you! Shades of the X-Files!
It's Sunday afternoon now and seems to be better, but there again I'm in the Mollymook golf club and gonna have another pizza in a couple of hours ;)
Worst I had yesterday was 78 seconds, most were around 20 - 30 seconds, now about 2 - 3 seconds
It's been flying along for me, until I entered this very thread! ::) ;D
Jus5 had this message at 16-15 whilst trying to use the Search Function :

I got that same message a couple of days ago.

It's seen how fast you work and decided it won't be able to keep up with you :smiley-laughing:
Looks like it's telling you to read your 41 messages as it's feeling highly stressed, Martin
Constantly getting the 'Error has occurred' message.
Forum virtually unusable this evening ::)
Glad you put the word 'virtually' in there, because you couldn't have posted otherwise! :D
Just had the same message 6 times so I'm offski :unimpressed:
Could someone feed the hamster that runs along in the turny wheel thingy that powers the forum please?
Turgid this morning (and not just me)
Is it just me or have others found response times pretty slow today?

It's definitely not just you, Martin.
The hamster in the wheel needs a kick up the backside.

Poor old Hammy probaby needs feeding, not brutal chastising

I just assumed one of the Mods had nodded off on the keyboard again.
