Here's a club you can join Ace and there must be plenty of members in your area.

I will be joining this one myself as there seems to be a large membership here in Brisbane.

The club i'm in are a very friendly bunch. Granted one of the reasons i joined this particular club as they said they had room for me to keep my large layout there. We only have around 15 members and we aren't accepting anymore, purely as we're a specialist DCC only club and the main clubroom (my layout will be in the basement) is going on full when everyone turns up!

Well well well guess what has happened. The club has had a general meeting with yoU guess it first pt of business new members. 17 yes 1 no and 2 no vote. They only had 20 to start with. I have been asked if I want to join now but I'm a bit hesitant. They have a OO and are building a big HO layout upstairs and a little double oval for the n gauge and don't seem too interested in expanding the n, so I'm at a crossroad, I enjoy the social side of things but I'm not really into building a layout that I won't/don't/can't run on. On the other hand some of the old guys at my live steam club belong to a newcastle club and they have a huge n gauge layOut.
What's everyone's thoughts

I think you should join them, spend some time getting to know them, and then persuade them to change the layout with your input.  :)  It's kind of them to let you in, so I think you should try them out before making a final decision.

I agree with Tank, you can do more by being in their midst than you can standing outside their ranks.  Perhaps if you impress some of them with your locos on their small n gauge layout you might stir up some interest.

I wouldn't involve any of them that have sight problems as this seems to be one of the main reasons why people upscale

The other issue is they don't do dcc, then again I can always run the new locos in there, I have taken my 108 with sound that I installed and it was well received so maybe I take down my new 5mt that I put sound into last week and show them how good n gauge really is

I dunno maybe its the Aussie way but if that were me and they never catered for N Gauge I wouldn't bother joining, don't see much point in groveling for something if they aren't interested which is most likely the case or they would already have an N Gauge layout.

Trouble is here in Oz HO is all the go and N is like a silent partner, a visit to most hobby shops is proof of that with maybe 100 HO and OO locos on display compared to maybe half a dozen N gauge models.

I will be checking out a local club this weekend but if they don't cater for N gauge I will give it a miss.

Personally Bart, i think it would be a great move for you and for the club if you joined.
OK you say they only have room for a small n gauge layout, well take it and turn it into something special, show them the quality of the latest N Gauge models, show them what you can do with sound in N and as Tank says, the interest will surely follow.
The same with DCC......none of the current members do DCC so you will be the one to show them what it can do.New members might then join because DCC interests them and before you know it you will have helped take the club to a new level.
You have really got nothing to lose and everything to gain as far as i can see......go for it. :NGaugersRule:
