Title: Idiot Dog Owners
Post by: guest311 on June 01, 2019, 02:27:05 PM
just got back from the fields where I encountered the typical IDOs  >:(

22 or 23 degrees so they'd got their dog chasing a tennis ball  :veryangry:

grandson and I were out for a walk in the fields, and it was  :censored: hot just walking.

anyway, on the way back saw these idiots with dog flaked out on the ground ....

"everything ok ?"

" he just collapsed "

"been chasing his ball hasn't he ? "

"err yes"

"Given him a drink ? "

" we only brought coke " possibly the drink, but perhaps not by their actions

anyway, gave the dog a drink from my water bottle and he soon improved .

"If you're walking your dog in this sort of heat, you need to have water for him, and try to control his activity "

"oh "

well that answered that question, the one with the collar was the intelligent one, the ones with the lead were the  :censored:

Yeah.

You don't want to confuse opposable thumbs with intelligence.

Rookie mistake.

Just experienced this at the lake, it's about 6 miles all the way around, took 4 bottles of water for him and stopped regularly to give it to him, still passed many people with no bag, no water, no supplies.

Even with the water I had for mine he still got to about the 5 mile mark and decided the path was a great place just to lay down, people were looking at me like I was this big bad monster, but he just wanted a rest and more to drink, after a few minutes he popped up and we were off again, albeit quite slowly.

I need to walk him earlier though as he was just about spent by the time we got to the car, once it gets over 80 we stay in the AC

Dogs here must be acclimatised to the heat, then, cos folks walk em in temperatures quite a lot warmer than that

No, and anything over 30 degrees you won't see them out there either (Well, there's always the odd one....)

Yes.  They burn around in the mid 30s, just need water and a rest now and then.  Dogs know their limits just like us.
initially I thought that; Hey, 23C isn't that cold to worry a dog. :)
Otherwise here they would only get exercise about 3 months a year. :D

I had a Beagle/Border Collie mix years ago. She was absurdly intelligent. I have always wanted another, but SWMBO doesn't like dogs in the house.  :(

Someday...

Do you know how to tell which loves you more?  Lock them both in a shed for an hour and see which one is pleased to see you when you let them out.

As someone who is cynophobic, all dog owners who use extendable leads or leave their dogs unleashed in anywhere other than a designated 'dog park' could do better. But then I also have an acute interest in dogs and think that there should be more dog parks. For instance, the Royal Parks could pen off a section of Kensington Gardens opposite the T-junction with Gloucester Road and turn it into a large dog park.

Took the dog (Siberian husky) for a stroll around the lake on Saturday, it's 6 miles all the way round and we meet many other owners (or staff depend how well the human is trained) who have dogs of various sizes and breeds, what was annoying was seeing so many without a bag with water and a bowl (and other bag for the dog mess).

I think I saw about three people who actually had thought of their animals, it was 67 Fahrenheit but those poor animals are still hot and knackered by the end, think about them too before you leave home empty handed.

What is that?  :confused2:

Dog owners are by law supposed to bag up their dog's poo (if discharged in public of course) and take it home or place it in one of the many tax-payer-funded bins which are placed in appropriate areas. Being too lazy to carry out the latter, the dirty so-and-sos throw the bags into the hedge. Their arrogance knows no bounds.

P.S. Why does every Forum I encounter contain dog poo threads - I thought I would avoid it on here.

While you don't have to suffer with this plague of dog  :censored: left dumped everywhere, you do have the joys of mother nature seemingly having it in for you with pretty much every other animal capable of killing you!

Strange you mention that.... in the local paper yesterday, a guy in a suburb a couple of kms from Chez Bealman was taking his green wheelie bin out to the street the other night when a red-bellied black snake (one of the real nasties) bit him on the ankle. It was asleep under the bin!

He spent the night in hospital, but survived because he did the right thing - rang ambulance, stopped moving, and put a compression bandage on the wound.

George, you may not get this phenomenon in Wollongong, but we certainly have it here in Canberra, though rarely are the offerings posted in trees let alone in such large numbers as shown by Trainfish. Really quite picturesque the purple and white - quite like a tree flowering in winter.

A poo deposited on the ground dries out within a day or so especially in summer and would have disintegrated in a week especially if there are dung beetles around. A poo inside an orange plastic bag deposited on the ground will hang around for weeks if not longer all the while calling attention to itself. People think they're doing the right thing by bagging it, but they only make matters a lot worse if they don't carry it away.

Response to George's last past. I saw a 1.2 m eastern brown snake slither through our local dog park last Thursday. Red-bellied blacks do not kill humans (makes them very sick though), but the eastern brown is either the first, second or third most venomous snake in the world depending on what reference you go to.

don't think you can get them anymore, at least last time I tried the butcher told me they couldn't sell them due to EU regulations  :veryangry:

I remember years ago we used to feed our shepherds on breast of lamb, which was cheap as chips, and meal, which was basically broken dog biscuits.

haven't been able to get meal for years, only 'mixer', and as for breast of lamb, far too expensive these days to feed to the beast.
