Title: any ex RAF Canberra armourers
Post by: Browning 9mm on March 26, 2024, 11:22:04 AM
recently bought a 1/72 kit, without instructions, for a Canberra, the proper one with the big cockpit canopy, not the fighter style.
it allows the aircraft to be built with bomb bay open or closed, and include a 'girder' that fits into the bomb bay, and then x 3 bombs added either side to the 'girder'.

my question is, does this 'girder / carrier' remain in the aircraft, or is it removed to load new bombs.?
I am thinking of a diorama of the aircraft being rearmed, so would that be with the bombs on the 'carrier', or bombs loaded separately onto the carrier fixed in the bomb bay.?
any help will be much appreciated.

Apparently the girder is fictional:

The IPMS Canberra facebook group might be of use:

many thanks, so bombs actually fitted to bomb bay roof, not this beam / carrier.

much appreciated.

Never got involved with Canberras nor armouring, radar, trained on Lancaster 1952, then didn't touch an aircraft until Kasfareet MU, mostly stored hulks, then Habbaniya and Akrotiri 6 Sqdn Venom and Vampire T11, did see 208 Sqdn Canberras at Akrotiri, then 3 years instructing, 1961-65 Honington Victors, 65-68 Waddington Vulcans, 68-74 instructing again demob '74. All better than working for a living - except for parades.
