Noch embossed walling

Hi,
has anyone used the noch embossed walling card.
I bought some recently and it has a shiny finish which I want to remove, as bricks normally have a matt finish. I thought about using matt varnish, or matt hairspray. Does anyone have any experience with this card please.

I had some probably 30 years ago, not used it since.  Yes I remember thinking it was a bit shiny.   

I'd probably try weathering powders rubbed onto the surface.  Even something like fine unperfumed talc or perhaps dust/powder from "cured" plaster?
