Technically not more trains but maybe the savings can be said to be going towards some of my pre-orders

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

That's odd.  ;)

It's been 18 months since one of my sisters collapsed and died at my side in the supermarket.
The Grant of Probate was applied for in November 2023 and, finally, the certificate has arrived in the post today. This means her house can at last be sold and the estate settled.
Who said the wheels of justice turn very slowly? ::)  ::)
Guess they were all working from home >:(

Papyrus

Well, there was dancing in the streets outside Papyrus Acres last night, or rather there would have been if we weren't so knackered.

We went out on the annual sloe hunt yesterday, not with much hope of a good harvest. The weather has been so poor we thought there wouldn't be many. We were also several weeks later than we like to be, so we figured what there was would probably already have been picked. So we were very pleasantly surprised to find good quantities of lovely juicy fruit and we came home with 6.2kg, probably enough for 10 or 11 bottles of sloe gin. We still have a couple of bottles of the 2020 brew left, and we haven't started on last year's, so we should have enough for the next year, or longer if there is a poor harvest in 2025.

Cheers  :beers:

Did you sing/hum this tune whilst picking them? One of Joe Bonamassa's best in my opinion

Papyrus

Who....?  ;)  ???

Not my style I'm afraid. Declan Sinott is more my kind of guitarist.

Had a cataract removed from one eye yesterday.

My new bionic eye is working really well.

Looking forward to getting the other eye done next month.

If you need a cataract op don't hesitate to go for it - quick & painless

Could not agree more Joe. I had mine done a couple of years ago, (might have been last year - they could do nowt for my memory!), and the difference in my sight is amazing. In fact, after I had the first one done, I was walking around for a couple of days with the eye shut half the time due to the amount of light that was getting in! I went to the opticians a few weeks after the last operation and the optician said that I have 20/20 vision in one eye and the other eye is even better! The amount of colour I can now see is, if I was a religeous man, nothing short of miraculous! I still find that I sometimes have to put my sunglasses on when driving. As you say, "quick and painless".

Quote from: Trainfish on September 25, 2024, 12:49:40 PMApart from receiving a load of green stuff for the layout courtesy of a very friendly person on here I'm also happy regarding car batteries or at least my car battery.

I've known for a while I may need a new battery on my car but have put it off whilst not working as I knew it woudn't be cheap. Anyway, with the colder months fast approaching I took it up to my friendly local garage yesterday and was quoted £200 and £260 for 2 different makes, the second being Bosch. I get on well with them at the garage and to be fair to them James told me I could probably get it a lot cheaper from somewhere like Amazon. So this morning I have been hunting 1 down. I found the same Bosch battery on there for £148 which I was happier with. However, I have Coupert installed on my PC and it popped up with several other offers. The best being £118 including delivery. A quick call to my local garage and I offered him £20 cash to fit it and he accepted. So pretty much half the price for exactly the same battery. So in a couple of days time not only will I be happy but so will my car and also my bank account  :D
And would you believe it? The battery on Mrs Trainfish's car gave up today! That's 2 batteries in 8 days. Luckily hers has only cost £36 so I guess I'm reasonably happy. Just worried about the "things always happen in threes" saying. As we ony have 2 cars I'm hoping it's not my battery which gives up to complete the trio. In fact I'm going to get leave a torch on in the cupboard tonight to deliberately flatten the battery to make it 3.

Talk of coincidence. I was looking for the most appropriate thread in which to say that if I disappear for a few days it'll be because my peepers also need cataracts removing, and up popped this post.

My first one is booked to be done on Wednesday, but the likely timing for the second isn't as quick as yours though. I will have to go for a post-op checkup 4-6 weeks after the op, then (if all is well) the secomd eye should be 2-3 weeks after that.

Have to admit I was somewhat apprehensive, my only previous surgical work having been all my wisdom teeth being removed when I was teenager -and they weren't essential, I still have 30 or so other teeth, but I only have two eyes and really need them both.

However, now I know why I've been finding it harder to do fiddly work and, lately, to read the computer screen at times (I think the cataracts are lowering the contrast of what I can see so it's more grey text on white instead of black on white), I'm keen to get it over with as soon as possible - especially as the chap who did the pre-op assessment told me that the cataract on my right eye is a particularly fast developing type which could well render the lens completely opaque within a year or less  :(

Hopefully in not too long a time after Wednesday, in the words of Arnie, I'll be back.

Newportnobby

Talking of wisdom teeth that reminds me - I have an appointment next week to have one put in  :-[

@chrism As I mentioned a couple of days ago, following a previous post from @joe cassidy , it will well be worth it Chris. Good luck.
