Evening all!

As i run modern image(and preserved) i will be running some railtours on my layout. I am currently working on two railtour rakes and thought i'd share my progress  :)

I'll start of with my Vintage trains rake purely because i'm a western man at heart. As i'm sure most of you know the basic vintage trains rake consists of a Mk1 support coach, 3 pullmans and several mk2's all in delicious Choccy/Cream. The problem is that there are no choc/cream Mk2's RTR, this meant i have had to buy some farish TSO's and repaint them myself (poorly i will admit) My current rake stands as: 3 Mk1 pullmans (correct types but not correct numbers yet) and 3 MK2 TSO's painted and interiors fitted but not yet numbered. I'll let the pics explain:

Next i have opted for the railtour rake everyone see's, good old West Coast Railways. Now this rake will be slightly easier to do as west coast have Mk1's in maroon which means less repainting. I have got 1 Mk2 at the momment just as i fancied having a go at one :D The rake so far for this is: Pullman (the hadrian bar) A Mk2 FO, Mk1 SO and MK1 SK. And the pics:

MK2 FO repainted into a maroonish colour, WCRC decals added, just need to line and number

Mk1 SO, WCRC decals added and numbered to 4940

Mk1 SK, WCRC decals added and numbered 99722 (18806) in real life this has a TSO interior which i will replicate at some point (picture not great on this one)

And a final close up of the west coast decal

What do you all think so far?

All the best
Ollie

Very good mate.  I didn't know they used a Mk1 support coach, so that is my new fact learnt for the day.   :)  The painting looks very good to me, and once there is a bit of detail like the numbers, it'll be superb.

I have the odd rail tour on my layout, I use it as a good reason to buy stream loco's to the wife

Also it just breaks up the modern day stuff.

Great work.  I'm always impressed by people making their own models.

Evening All,

I thought you may like to see how these are progressing, well the Vintage trains rake is pretty much complete. The west coast one on the other hand has had some work done on it, one thing which was nagging me is that the ends are maroon on their coaches but the farish ones are black. So armed with a can of railmatch BR maroon i set to work....

The base components to a MK1, plus some transfers

Coach Masked off ready for spraying

Coaches during the spraying process

And while the bodies were having their end's sprayed i populated the interiors

And there we go. A maroon ended, west coast Mk1 :D

A pic to show the difference in the ends

Add some loco's to the front and there ya go :D A slightly more correct West Coast set

Not the biggest task but certainly look more prototypical, all i need now is some commonwealth bogies and some overhead flashes decals

Hi Michael,

The FO i didn't actually mask them, i bought this purely as a tester model to see what it looked like. Needless to say until Farish/Dapol (But i'd rather Farish) bring out some new tooled Mk2's (Early type please) then i doubt i'll be using the FO. On a related note i will be getting 5/6 of the new MK1 FO's when they are released

By buying coaches with them. Bachmann refuse to sell the bogies as bogie packs in N (even though they do in OO). They've been like this for years. Dapol otoh are much more sensible about it. Unfortunately Dapol don't do Commonwealths.

The TPM/Ultima commonwealth bogies will fit the old ones but I'm not sure about the new ones.

Ollie,

May I ask where you got the WRC decals from? I'm thinking of repainting a Class 33 in this livery!
