More IT woes

My garden office/future hobby room has used a mini-hub to get wifi out to it. The BT minihub uses the mains power cabling to the garden room to connect the room to the router in the house. It then has it's own router plugged into the mains.

All was well until the box in the house connecting the router to the mains got very hot, and then died.

I found this way of getting wifi to the garden room very satisfactory, but I can't seem to find a replacement system.

Does anyone know of a similar system available?

I've had a couple of my 1Gb ethernet-over-mains boxes get hot and die over the years. I've suspected it may be down to the times when only one end of the connection is powered on and spends a lot of time polling trying to pair up.    I keep spares (the particular units I use are no longer made),  but mostly I've moved over to using a high speed WiFi bridge to connect my home office room to the main router and withdrawn the mains boxes.  I've recently added a second WiFi extender to spread reception to the far end of our conservatory.

There are plenty of choices for ethernet-over-mains systems and WiFi repeaters, also referred to as Powerline or Homeplug. Different speeds, different designs with or without passthrough mains sockets, different number of ethernet ports, with or without WiFi. Try Amazon etc.  Best to buy a matched pair so you know they are compatible.

Very helpful. Especially the matched pair advice. Thanks. BT seem just to do ethernet extenders now, without the mini hub built in. It seemed a great piece of kit.
