Caught a quick glimpse of a short programme about William Walton at the Proms yesterday.
The BBC Symphony Orchestra played "Battle in the Air" as used in the film 'Battle of Britain'
Huge lump in throat and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end - awe inspiring

I know what you mean Nobby, every time I hear Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance I get goose bumps, just goes to show I left England for Australia 55 years ago and still feel proud to have British blood flowing through my veins, Nimrod does the same.

One reason I really think it needs to become a republic - we'd have to change the English national anthem for some proper music !

With so much patriotic music in our past we really do need to change our national anthem to a more patriotic piece.Nimrod, Pomp and Circumstance,  Orb and Sceptre, Crown Imperial etc. etc all spring to mind
Add to this the sites and sounds that our massed military bands of the past brought to our eyes and ears and we would have a culture to be proud of again.

Cheers Jonclox.  Nimrod on Remembrance Sunday - fabulous - just like Nobby said; makes the hairs stand up on your neck and a lump in your throat.

Good old Elgar.  His cello concerto is my second favourite piece of classical music.  Not quite Pink Floyd, but then they hadn't invented David Gilmour back then! :smiley-laughing:
