Dear all,
This weekend we'll be installing a new gallery to the forum. Your images are all safe and nothing will happen to them, other than migrating to the new gallery.
Some new features will include editing your photo's on the forum, use of filters, and hopefully an easier way of uploading your photo's. I know some members are put off by the current method of uploading - forums are more complex than Facebook! ;)
Sorry for any more disruption, but I feel that it's best to get as much out of the way as soon as we can.
Many thanks as always for your wonderful support.
Tank/Chris
Mr Administrator with all these upgrades you're really spoiling us! :D
But seriously, many thanks for doing the impossible - improving the world's best forum. :beers:
:NGF:
Merry Christmas! :D
Look forward to it, I haven't been able to edit my photos for some time and my last uploading effort was rejected! All the best with this
Just testing the Reply System in this thread.
Okay for me.
Thank you Tank & the team for all your hard work keeping the forum going :thankyousign:
Cheers, Stu

If you want to resize your
pics image files I recommend IrfanView (https://www.irfanview.com/ (https://www.irfanview.com/)). It's free for non-commercial. I haven't used it for years, but it had a simple option of resizing for web use. Give it a go.
HTH. :beers:
if your a windoze user why not just use paint to resize your image?
I've edited my previous post (#7) as I intended to say resize the image files. With IrfanView one can reduce the file size without reducing the image resolution.
You can also use Image Resizer (free) on windows machines
https://www.bricelam.net/ImageResizer/ (https://www.bricelam.net/ImageResizer/)
Once installed you can just right click on an image and select the desired size.
Any half decent photo editor allows resizing in mm, cm or pixels as well as allowing cropping, adjusting brighness, contast and colour balance, adding text and cloning out unwanted bits and a few other manipulations; some are free, some cheap and some ridiculously expensive. Ease of use also varies!
@Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) So is the gallery still down then?
Ive just had a 'you are not allowed to add an item in this category' message, when trying to post to the gallery.
Probably just me being impatient.
cheers

We're still having some issues! Files have been uploaded (again!), but some of the coding needs to be changed in order to work on the new server. I'm in talks with the author of the new gallery and I hope this will be rectified soon. Nothing is ever easy!!! ::) ;D
As I always used to say,"If it was easy any idiot could do it."
It's gone back to dead slow, the little info bar bottom left seems to stick at "Performing TLS handshake with N Gauge Forum, once that clears the rest of the page loading goes OK, the TLS handshake thing though occurs on any action, opening and closing a topic to read, or doing a reply, just sits there shaking hands for 20+seconds.
Can't load pictures this morning, (22/12/18) same JPEG pictures from the same camera on this tablet as before when it worked.
I'm having the same problem. It is a work in progress  :beers:
Trying to upload a few pictures, same as I've done before, taken with my phone and trying to add to My Gallery, when I click to add picture it gives me a "not a valid file" message.
Just did a quick test, an image straight from the camera at 2.3Mb file size gets the "not valid" message, however a cropped and resized version works fine, if you click on the image you get a larger version; when it's added to a post the forum software appears to reduce the size, clicking on the image takes you to the gallery where the file is stored at the original uploaded larger size. see below
So the answer is you can not ulpoad a large file straight from the camera/phone/ipad or whatever, you need to reduce the file size; it's been mentioned before but some of you just don't appear to believe the facts or are too lazy to take the trouble to find out how to resize an image!.
It may be an idea to insert wording in the upload dialogue window stressing the max file size, or maybe modify the wording "not valid" to "file too large" ( have it in large flashing technicolour text, as me mum used to say "there's none so blind as them that will not see")

Hi all,
The new gallery, once installed will work perfectly and be more professionally made. So, changing the current gallery in any way will not be happening due to it being obsolete.
I'm going to lock this thread for now, until more progress is made. Currently we're waiting for the author/designer of the new software to get back to us. However, I imagine he is now on holiday mode!
Thanks for your feedback.
