Title: HELP - WHAT TO DO WITH 2 OLDER FARISH 08's
Post by: paulprice on January 11, 2017, 10:56:17 AM
Well seeing as Santa seemed to forget about my modelling needs, I went to the sapre room for a bit of a sulk. When I was there I found two older Farish 08's that I had hidden away.

The question is what to do with them, needs to be steam outline and if LMS the better, the problem is I already have a couple of 7F's so............

Does it really have to be steam outline or is an LMS diesel built in 1935 an option?
In that case you could convert your 08 into LMS 7069:

Do a 'cut and shut' to create a class 13 then sell it as a rarity :D

One problem with that otherwise very good idea - Parkwood do the kit designed to fit the new outside framed 08 chassis.

I have been scratching my head for alternative chassis uses.
As far as I am aware (based on personal knowledge backed up by a search through the NGS list of kits and available chassis in the handbook), the only kits designed for the "Farish 1009" chassis were:

GEM whitemetal kit for 28xx (superseded by Dapol model)
GEM whitemetal kit for L&Y 7F

And you already have the 7F kit. The only other possibility is a new 3D manufacturer has made something that fits the 1009 chassis, and again I have not come across such a kit (though it may be out there somewhere).

I would personally sell them on. I think you would get more for two separate sales than as a single class 13, given they would still be wrong as not having outside frames. Although making one just for fun would be fun, and low risk given the cost of new these days.
Best profits to be had on EBay sales are when the item is broken, and folk overbid in order to get a good deal :) so perhaps a class 13ish would be the right thing to do if you had the time (and didn't factor in the cost of materials and time into the resale value of the project!

HTH

Bob

I have a representation of a class 11 already, but thanks for the idea great minds think alike (be afraid be very afraid)

There was a guy on the N Gauge Yahoo group who used to eat Farish pannier tanks.

He was a professor at Oxford university if I remember well.

Best regards,

Joe

The chassis is shared with the J94 and some kits. Or you could scratchbuild something onto it. Some OO9 kits also use that chassis if you fancy an adventure in a different scale.
