Title: Goodbye Niki
Post by: Newportnobby on May 21, 2019, 10:53:33 AM
Whether you like F1 or not, we bid farewell to an extremely brave man who, just 6 weeks after he and his car being engulfed in flames, was in the seat and racing again despite appalling burns.
One of the true greats.
Sleep well, Niki Lauda :(

My favourite Niki story comes from his autobiography "To Hell and Back". His wealthy family was very much against him racing and he relates with superb dry with that:

"My family got wind of the fact that I was out in the garage tinkering around with a racing car. I told them that all I was interested in was the mechanical challenge which would help develop my engineering skills. I did have to promise however that I wouldn't race.

My first race came a couple of days later..."

Good on you Niki!

Thanks for everything, the world's lost a fighter.
