This is a bid to claim that the best scale is 2mm and the best gauge is 'N'!! What is not to like in N gauge?

I guess that some may disagree?

The Q

The best Scale is what ever suits you, I do wish I had gone for 2mmFS for my home railway, simply because I didn't scale the maps up before I collected vast amounts of stock, the Shed needed to be 54ft long for EM gauge for my desired station..

Every Scale is a compromise, in N, we generally have to put up with some awful looking  couplings, but we can get away with less detail.

Yes some excellent photos and layouts are featured as examples of British N, but don't forget the rest of the world :D

I wouldn't look at any other gauge, but I don't make it exclusive. Basically I love anything that runs on rails, be it Z, N, OO, O,1 and everything I've missed, up to 1:1.

I've been N gauge from my beginning, but on the weekend I finally laid 2 yards of code75 on a plank for a test run of a OO LT Red Pannier (another interest) that has been in the box since 2011. I have a couple of OO LT wagons as well. Hmmm. The (N) force is strong, but I think I'm being seduced by the dark side!

Pity about the OO tension lock couplings! I reckon they are WORSE than the rapido type N gauge couplings. It looks like kadees/microtrains all around!

It's not a mayday situation yet, but definitely a pan pan!

They've certainly already largely taken over the freight-train world in this country (albeit in different colours to that one!).
