With regards to the Pannier, theres an hexagonal alley key kinda thing in there. Any idea what this is for?

It's to undo the crank pins if you find the need. Handy on some of the tender locos that have traction tyres that will need replacing at some point but IIRC the Pannier doesn't have any.

Each can do but little, BUT if each did that little, ALL would be done!

It looks fine to me Peter and as the seller has a 100% positive feedback I don't think you will have much to worry about  ;)

cheers John.

Dock Shunter

Even the box looks brand new,so at that price i would say you have done rather well Peter...

That looks like a nice little bargain to me. I always did like the Class 45s. I remember them hanging around St Pancras back in the seventies.

mr bachmann

At the risk of boring forum members everywhere, here are my most recent acquisitions. It's only a lowly 08 shunter and a couple of crappy wagons, but they are very special to me as I picked them up on my recent trip to the Northern hemisphere and therefore bring back fond memories.

Here is the 08. It is the first weathered model I have bought and I am very happy with it. I made a special detour to Devon and got it at Buffers - a great little shop owned and operated by two lovely crazy ladies who unfortunately were out on the day of my visit. It's a nice little runner, too. Parked in the goods yard at Kirkby Langdale:

Here it is again at Skeggles Water. As can be seen by all the holes in the front, I haven't even thought about putting all the bits on yet.

Those way overscale grain-of-wheat bulb signals can be seen - supposedly to be changed to LED ones in the future, but I'm a bit reluctant to do so because (a) they are automated and work well, and (b) they have a 1950s look to them that I like.

Here is the grain wagon I picked up from Hattons when I visited an old college mate who lives very close to the place. It is also a weathered model.

Next - an intruder!! I spent a wonderful morning at Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg, Germany, so I had to bring back a souvenir, didn't I. Anyway, Rule 1.....
[smg id=7859 type=preview align=center width=400]
So here are my humble purchases together on Troutbeck bridge:
[smg id=7860 type=preview align=center width=400]
[smg id=7861 type=preview align=center width=400]
Finally, here is another loco that is special to me - a Poole 08 sent to Australia as a gift from my late mother back in 1987. It is still a good little performer once it warms up. However,I have included it to show the differences between it and the latest version.

Immediately obvious is the lack of outside frames on the old model. However, I am of the opinion that the body work isn't all that bad - but I am looking at it through rose-coloured glasses, I suppose. There is some very fine white lettering on the sides of it!
[smg id=7853 type=preview align=center width=400]
[smg id=7847 type=preview align=center width=400]
[smg id=7848 type=preview align=center width=400]
Apologies if I have sent folk to sleep! Toodle loo, George.

Good pictures George and your locos look good in that setting

I think the Miniature Wonderland addition is a nice reminder of your whistle stop tour and I hope it will bring back happy memories for you  ;)

cheers John.

Fantastic pictures George, far from boring 8)

Really nice little collection George, and like me there is so much associated with a piece that is more important than the item.

That looks lovely, but it definitely needs some weathering. I haven't seen an HST that clean since the 1970s!  ;)

(And even then it was only for the first day of service, before they were 'worn in' a bit.)
