I seem to remember reading somewhere that the RAF would be flying that unmentionable yankee computer thingy from the carriers, if the computer would let them, of course, while RN pilots fly the ex RAF Merlins.

in the Falklands war IIRC RAF Harriers were deployed onto the carriers, to replace combat losses to Sea Harriers.

I think you'll find that both types of Harrier were deployed, the Sea Harrier primarily in the air defence role (although it did do some ground attack) and the Harrier GR3 in the Ground attack role. If memory serves eight Harriers in total were lost but none to air to air combat. RAF Harriers did not replace Sea Harrier losses, they had quite different roles.
